Jaime set the hoodie into her hands. They were less than a foot apart. "Enjoy your stay," he said with a small smirk on his face. He then turned and left the room to go back upstairs and change in his room.
He wondered what his mom and told Ethel about him. His mom didn't actually care, or if she did she had never shown it. She had only pressured him to be the perfect son, the golden boy, just for her and his father's image, so people would look up to them, other people would love them, other people would see how wonderful of people they were. So he did his best to go against that.
As he pulled a shirt over his head he thought about Ethel specifically. She was cute, especially when flustered. But she was already confident that he was a bad guy. He wondered if he could change her mind. Probably not.
Jaime walked out of his bedroom fully clothed in a plain t-shirt and jeans. He walked down the carpeted stairs. His father had joined the group, having finished packing up the car.
"We should best be off, then, his father said. "Good luck with Jaime, Ethel. And goodbye, Jaime."
Jaime raised an eyebrow. The only reason they were actually bidding him goodbye was because Ethel was there. So he just did as he normally did and said nothing.
After an awkward moment of his parents expecting an acknowledgement of their departure but not getting any, they closed the door and drove away. -
Ethel spun around on her heel and stared Jaime down, inspecting his clothes for the slightest sign of wrinkles. She found quite a few, but considering this was her first day with him, she decided to turn a blind eye.
"Do you have any homework that was given to you?” Ethel asked. Her question sounded like more of a demand than an inquiry. -
"Completed it all," Jaime responded. "You're not really going to take on the role of babysitter, are you?"
-
Ethel crossed her arms, her chin raised up in the air and her head held up proudly.
"I was called to attend to this role, and I will fulfill this duty to the best of my abilities. Say goodbye to mischief and inappropriate behavior, it will be replaced with a rule following, law abiding citizen!” -
"And what makes you think I'm not one?" Jaime asked, sitting on the couch. "Aside from that little stunt I pulled when you got here?"
-
"Good boys don’t walk into a living room stripped of their clothes. Especially in front of strangers.” Ethel crossed her arms and eyed Jaime suspiciously.
(NAH I IMAGINED ETHEL SAYING ESPECIALLY LIKE “Espeshhially” LIKE THOSE PEOPLE IN MOVIES-) -
"I said aside from that stunt I pulled when you got here," Jaime said.
-
"Well, for starters your hair looks absolutely trashy! Did a raccoon make a nest in it or something?” Ethel turned up her nose at the mere sight of it.
-
Jaime raised an eyebrow. "And that's a sign of a troublemaker?"
-
"A subtle one, but still a small sign!”
-
Jaime rolled his eyes. She really wouldn't change her mind about him. "Well, then, what would you like to do?"
-
“Surely you must need to study for any upcoming tests! You never know when teachers might surprise you with a pop quiz.” Ethel crossed her arms and grinned warmly at Jaime. “It’s always best to be prepared, after all.”
-
"I've never needed to study," Jaime said. "And before you think I'm failing because of it, I'm actually not. I have top marks."
-
Ethel hummed in approval. "I see, so you're able to keep your grades up. Maybe you aren’t as bad as your first impression made you look! But still, it would be better to prepare ahead of time in case something does pop up.”
-
Jaime rolled his eyes. "Anyway, I didn't ask what I should do," he said. "I asked you what you wanted to do."
