Dream pressed his hand over Nick's mouth. "Calm down. Be quiet. On the other side is a skeleton. I'd prefer not to die. I have nothing I can use to kill it from here. " He pushed on Nick's shoulder slightly, trying to feel a difference. "I can try to reset the bone, but we shouldn't do it until I can kill that."
-
"Just do it-" Nick said. His voice was muffled due to Dream's hand. "P-Please-" He glanced nervously over at the Skeleton as his eyes widened with panic and pain. When he looked back up and met Dream's eyes, his own were filled with tears.
-
"Nick, I ... Okay. It's going to hurt and I need both hands. Try to muffle your scream somehow." Dream switched sides and pushed Nick's shoulder back into socket. He flinched at his friend's scream and wiped the tears rolling down his cheeks away. "I'm sorry. I told you it would hurt. But ... hopefully it was for the best."
-
Nick rolled onto his side and sobbed. "Why!? Why why why!?" He asked weakly. Tears streamed down his face and his body shook.
The skeleton was in the arrow, and it shot another arrow. Thankfully, this one missed as well. -
Dream winced again. "I'm sorry. I didn't want to hurt you. Can you try to calm down, please, Nick?" He pulled his friend up and hugged his friend. "Are you okay?"
-
Nick didn't have the mental or physical strength to lie this time. "No-" He sobbed.
The Skeleton inched closer, struggling in the river. A Zombie appeared on the riverbank behind it. -
Dream held his friend close, looking up to see the Zombie and the Skeleton. "Nick, as soon as we get to the city again, I'm taking you to a healer. Can you tell me what's wrong? Please?" He shifted slightly, pulling his dagger out and setting it on the ground next to him.
-
"It hurts so f**king bad! I still feel like something terrible has happened. I feel sick, I-It hurts." Nick replied. His words were slurred and he felt dizzy from the pain.
-
Dream rocked slowly side to side, trying to comfort his friend. "Shhhh. It's okay, Nick. I got you. Can you just relax?" He asked, his voice breaking at his friend's pain. "I don't know what could have happened, but right now, worry about yourself. You're hurt bad. I'm worried about you. Please, just relax." He choked back a sob and tried to stay calm for Nick.
-
"I don't matter, they do. You do. I don't." Nick mumbled. "I don't worry about me."
-
Dream shook his head, letting his tears fall. "That's not true. You do matter. You're the only really friend I had for years! I don't know what I would've done without you! You have to worry about yourself. Because if I lose you... Of Karl loses you... neither of us would know what to do. Nick, please, for me, for Karl, worry about yourself!" He started sobbing about halfway through his little speech and broke down completely at the end, holding Nick tight.
-
Nick said nothing else, he just shook his head and sobbed harder. He glanced toward the river and gasped.
The skeleton was about halfway across the river now, and it pulled back and aimed at Clay's head. -
Dream barely registered Nick's gasp, and just kept sobbing over his friend. He didn't look up and didn't realize how easily he could die.
-
"NO!" Nick shouted. He threw his body weight back and knocked Clay and himself out of the way of the arrow just seconds before it would have hit the blonde. Nick struggled to his feet and picked up a called tree branch.
-
Dream gasped, staring at Nick. "Nick, no!" He scrambled to his feet, and grabbed his dagger. "Nick, let me handle it. You're still hurt!" He lunged forward and tried to grab Nick before he went back into the river.
