"Citadel wait!!! I don't remember exactly what happened but m-my friend Matthew h-he went out to see all the commotion I need to know if he's ok." Morrigan said as she looked frantically up at him. oh my god Matthew HAS to be ok...he just has to be.
-
"I'll go check it out," Citadel said with a nod. "I'll have him call you when I find him."
-
"Ok. Thank You. For everything." Morrigan said, feeling extremely guilty for not becoming Onyx in time. For not being able to do anything.
-
"Of course," Citadel said with a nod. He glanced behind him, the officers already brought Parallex out. "Can you meet me on the roof of your apartment complex, tomorrow at noon?"
-
"I think so. That'll be fine." Morrigan replied. She crouched down and started picking up pieces of a glass vase that had shattered on the floor. "You've got more important people to attend to than me, so go save the world somewhere else." She said with a smile.
-
"There's not much else to do, don't worry about it," Citadel said. "But I'll go find your friend Matthew."
-
"Jesus Christ...Thank you. I-I'm worried. I feel like I shouldn't be, but I am." Morrigan had now picked up half the pieces. She pulled one out from the floorboards.
-
"He'll be fine, I'm sure of it," Citadel said with a smile, pressing a button on his wristband to call his uncle to pick him up. "Do you need any help with that?"
-
"No, I think I got-" Morrigan cut off with a yelp as the glass stuck in the floorboard suddenly came free and cut her hand. "-it." She finished.
-
Citadel crouched down, taking the glass from her and moving to throw them away. He reached into a small pouch on his belt, pulling out a bandaid.
"Here," He said with a smile. "Do you have a dust pan? Or just like, a broom?" -
"Yeah, I do. Dear God, I'm such a f***ing clutz I swear! I'm so sorry." Morrigan rose from the floor and went into the kitchen. "I've passed out twice, cowered, maybe accidentally gotten my friend hurt, and now I've managed to cut myself with glass. How pathetic." She returned with the broom and dustpan and started sweeping up the mess.
-
"No, you're not pathetic," Citadel stated, helping where he could. "Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. I'm pretty clumsy myself," He added with a chuckle.
-
A realization hit Morrigan. "Oh, I could just explain everything right now. We're alone." She said and looked up at Citadel.
-
"Oh, yeah. That works," Citadel said with a nod. "Shoot."
-
Morrigan carefully started her story...not wanting to reveal too much and give away that she was Onyx.
"Where do I start...ok. So, about five years ago my family and I lived in a city a long way away from here. My mom and dad were having some trouble because my father made deals and did tasks for really, really bad people. I interrupted one of dad's meetings with these people, not knowing any better. It happened to be with Parallex and a couple of other men. They were talking about needing tech for a bomb, but I didn't know that at the time. I came in and offered to help, thinking my dad would approve of me if I did so.
Instead of sending me out, both my dad and Parallex used me immediately. I built powered suits, I fixed guns and gadgets, I-I made things that hurt people...killed people. I HATE myself for it. Loath myself for it. I thought I was helping the good guys. I now know that they were part of this League Of Villains. Terrorizing the general population for fun or revenge.
As years went on, Parallex started getting...pushy. Touchy. Generally inappropriate as well. He grabbed at me, made me uncomfortable, and just wouldn't stop. My father did nothing about it, even after I expressed how it made me feel. After a while Parallex started hurting me, being really rough. So one day I turned and used my telik- I mean one of the blasters I created to get him away. He came at me again, but I never let him close.
So he left, screaming and saying that we would all pay. And we did. Two days later, at midnight, I was working in the lab when I smelled smoke from the house above me. Alarms started going off, and lights flashed red. I tried to sprint up the stairs, but the hatch at the top was sealed shut. I realized I'd have to go out the back entrance. The smoke had seeped down from above and was burning my lungs. Highly flammable material was in the lab as well, so you can imagine how that went. I made my way through the corridor, but when I turned the corner he was there. He....He threw me against the wall and said 'It's all your fault'. He pinned my arms above my head and leaned in close...it was terrible. So I used the blaster and aimed down at him, knocking him away. He chased after me, but I got away and locked him inside the lab. I-I saw in the news that my family died in the fire, but no one found Parallex. So I ran here. I didn't think he'd find me...I guess I was wrong." Morrigan finished her story, and tears started falling down her face. She put her head down, ashamed of everything she had done, and ashamed of not being able to do anything now.
