Echo hissed and shuddered. They saw Lauren. She looked right into their eyes. That wasn't safe. Not for a human. She witnessed the murder of their parents. He twirled the knife again and sighed. Hope was lost. He had to talk to her...............

"Devin, what..." she looked down and swallowed, trying to get the emotions she was feeling out of her voice, "what happened? Why did you kill them?" His family had been like a second family to her. She never understood why he ended their lives and it had hurt her beyond belief that the boy she used to have a crush on did something like that.

Echo shuddered. Why? The demons made them do it. How could they explain that? Just do it. They told themselves. But how? HOW??

"Devin?" Laura asked. She waited a few moments for him to answer, but he didn't. She shook her head. "Nevermind," she said and started walking past him.

"No! Wait!" Their voice echoed even worse than before. They shuddered violently and coughed. "We killed our parents because they - they made us. We couldn't stop it!" Echo coughed violently, blood coming up. They vomited and moaned in pain. The demons were torturing them again.

Laura's eyes widened. She didn't know why, but instead of running or asking more questions, she rushed over to make sure he was okay.

"What do you want?" They moaned in pain. They coughed again and vomited. They could taste the blood. Echo threw their knife to the ground and dropped to their knees. Again they vomited blood. Echo moaned again, and became aware of the fact that Lauren was standing over them. They wiped the blood from their mouth. "Why do you care what happens to us?"

Lauren knelt down. "I think...I don't know. But maybe I'm hoping that the Devin I used to know is still in there," she said. "Do you need to go to the hospital?"

Echo moaned. The demons were settling down. But still, she was better than others. The others tried to chain them, kill them, hurt them. But no........."No. We don't need to go to the hospital. We're fine. Thanks though." They sighed. Pain flushed them and they moaned.

Lauren rubbed his back soothingly. "Breathe," she said. "It'll help."
She was thinking of how Devin was acting. The way he was speaking, both how his voice reverberated and how he was speaking as multiple people. His eyes were different too. Instead of the bright and happy blue they'd been before, they were a harsh red. He had scars along his arm. She looked at the knife just a few feet away from the two of them. He wasn't the same as he used to be.
"What happened to you?" she whispered, completely unknowingly speaking her thoughts. -
Echo moaned. They knew what they should do. "We have demons. We have been demon possessed since the time we got sick. 3 years ago."

"Do you know if there's any way to reverse it?" she asked. She immediately felt stupid for asking that. It had been three years, if there was a way to reverse it, he probably would have done it by now.

Echo sighed. "Yes. Love will reverse it. But there is no true love. Nothing like that. That's a story." They shuddered and vomited again.

Lauren sighed and stood up. "Come on," she said. "You need some food in your system after how much you just threw up."

Echo moaned. They couldn't eat. No way. "But-But we can't eat!! We'll get even more sick!!!" They started panicking. They could feel the demons rising and panicking. They cursed violently and grabbed the knife of the ground. They screamed violently and shuddered, equally violently.
