"I'm not condoning laziness," Tessa said. "You have two legs, use them."

Verona whined for a few more minutes before agreeing reluctantly and stomping down the hallway.

Tessa followed the angry girl to the dining room.

Jacob was already there, eating his steak and mashed potatoes.
Verona whined at him.
“HEYYYYYY, NO EATING WITHOUT US!"
“Verona, we eat without everybody else every single day.”
“But now we have a new family member! She'll eat with us every day."
“Mhm.” -
"I'm probably only going to be staying for a week," Tessa said as she sat down.

“Then that’s a week of us eating together!” Verona chirped.

Tessa served herself from the food that was laid out on the table. She took a bite and her eyes widened in shock.
This food was the best she had ever had. At the orphanage the food was horrible and it was always the same two meals every day. Oatmeal and stale sandwiches.
Tessa looked down at her plate. She was starving. She had gotten in trouble with Miss Javelin before she left, and one of her punishments was skipping meals. And with only two meals a day, it was safe to say she was famished.
She swallowed. She had to force herself not to eat everything. She was probably only going to be staying here for the week, unless Mr. Ryder actually decided to adopt her, which she highly doubted from what she heard from Verona. She didn't want to get used to living in this type of luxury. -
"Hey, you need to eat EVERYTHING!” Verona scolded, picking up on how hesitant Tessa was to devour the food.

Tessa ignored her and hesitantly took another bite.

Unlike Tessa, Verona and Jacob were chowing down their food. It was like they were a garbage disposal.

Tessa's stomach was suddenly upset. She wasn't used to this rich of food.
"Where's the bathroom?" Tessa quietly asked. -
"It's the first door in the hallway." Jacob said, pointing at the hallway where Verona and Tessa came from.

Tessa nodded and rushed out the room. She went to the toilet, flipped the lid up, and vomited what little was in her stomach out. Apparently her stomach didn't agree with rich foods.

Verona and Jacob just kept eating.

Tessa didn't go back to the dining room. Why go there if she wasn't going to eat? She started wandering around, not knowing where in the world she was, with Sandy padding behind her.
