"The ice cream or generosity?"
-
"Both," she said.
-
"Ah, but that is just what happens at Palino's ice-cream cart!" The ice-cream man, Palino, exclaimed. "The impossible miracles come true here!"
"He sold a brand new couch just so he could help a homeless guy. It was pretty nice." Jacob whispered to her. -
Tessa blinked in surprise. That didn't sound right. All her life good things were never completely good, because they came with a price, a condition, a twisted little trade, and she usually got the short end of the stick. Miss Javelin had always been her only source of provisions.
-
The man bustled around to get all the ice cream.
Once he finished, Palino proudly presented it to the two people.
"Magnificent! Please, enjoy your ice cream!" Palino exclaimed. -
(Three people, you forgot Verona)
Tessa's eyes widened. "Thank you!" she grinned. -
(Or did I?)

Jacob took his ice cream and looked down at the spot where Verona was at.
"Hey, you should grab your ice cream before it…" The dark-haired boy trailed off, his eyes widened slightly and his dark pupils dilated in horror.
Verona was not there. -
"Where is she?" Tessa asked. She looked back at Palino to see if he knew.
-
“Butterfly flew, little girl ran after it. Quite simple, really."
"And you didn't tell us?" Jacob snarled.
"Uh, no-" -
"Which way?" Tessa asked.
-
Palino pointed a finger west.
"That way!"
Jacob wasted no time in dashing in the direction Palino pointed at.
"Good luck!" He called after the bot. -
Tessa ran after Jacob. For a rich boy who seemed to lounge around all day, he was fast. She made sure he stayed in sight, though.
-
Jacob looked left and right frantically as he ran. There was no sight of his little sister anywhere!
Endless, terrible thoughts flew about in his clouded mind. She could be kidnapped. No, what if something took her? Like a bear? No, that wasn’t possible. So it might've been a human!
One small, tiny, but good thought lingered in Jacob’s head.
Maybe she just ran off and was safe. -
Tessa saw a corner of Verona's dress from around the corner.
"JACOB!!!" she called. "VERONA!!!" She began running in the direction of the skirt. -
Verona, not having heard Tessa call out, was entertaining herself by playing with some beautiful butterflies.
Each one flapped their wings around her majestically, peeling the little girl’s curious eyes to them and them alone.
Jacob quickly spun on his heel and ran back to where Tessa had gone off to. The sight of his little sister’s wavy skirt instantly made his heart stop racing in fear.
