"Ok, glad for the reunion, but we have more pressing matters right now!" Rasia said.
-
The manager glared at Felix one more time before closely looking at the sleeping boy.
"Is this Axel? My goodness, he hasn't grown at all!" The manager exclaimed.
“No, Varian, Axel was possessed by our grandfather at that age and he somehow broke free from him. But by the looks of it, Axel might return to that psychopath." Felix said grimly.
"Well, there is one thing to be done." Varian, the manager, huffed. -
"What?" Rasia asked, getting impatient.
-
"Hm? Oh, what was it?" Varian scolded himself. “Here, follow me to my office. The map might be there somewhere."
-
"Map?" This was an emergency, and they had to deal with a map?
-
"A map to free Axel." Varian said.
-
Rasia stood up, Axel in her arms. "Well then let's get it."
-
Varian took the lovely couple and Axel to the back of the restaurant where his office was.
Stacks of paper were neatly piled on top of each other on his desk. Two pens with black ink rested in a cup along with ten freshly sharpened pencils.
“Please, take a seat. You guys must be exhausted.” The manager said as he went around the desk to his big chair. -
Rasia said nothing, just sat down. She didn't want to deal with pleasantries right now.
-
Varian opened a drawer and dug inside for a few minutes before taking out an old map. It had wrinkles all over it, which meant it was probably old.
“This map will take you to a forest. Most likely a forest that's here. You have the follow the black lines to the red ‘x'. Once you arrive at your destination, you should be standing in front of an abandoned church. An old man will come out of the church and ask you to come inside and have something to eat and drink. You must accept his invite, for if you do not then he might kill you."
"Then, after you go inside, the old man will claim that he hasn't got any wood for a fire. One of you two, preferably Felix, will have to go collect some wood while the other person,” Varian looked at Rasia. "You, will stay inside the church and cook a savory meal using only vegetables. The old man isn't too fond of devouring meat. He says it’s a big disturbance to nature."
"The downside of this is that Felix must collect the wood in exactly ten minutes. If he doesn’t, you and Axel might not fare well.” -
This was more complicated than she thought. "Well, at least Felix is a lumberjack," she said, trying to look on the bright side. "And I'd consider myself a decent cook. Hopefully we should be able to do it."
-
"Yes, but you must also play a game with him. That old man is rather playful.” Varian sighed, pressing his hands to his forehead and rubbing.
-
"What kind of game?" Rasia asked.
-
“A game of tag. Before any demon or ghost gets cast out of the victim’s body, the old man will release the thing possessing that person and will make it chase you. You must succeed in outrunning it, or else death awaits you."
Felix shuddered at the middle-aged man's words. He inhaled a sharp breath and maintained a stoic, neutral expression on his face. -
Radia swallowed. "Okay," she said.
