Cassie stormed to his room. "Give it back," she demanded.
-
"Give what back?" he asked innocently, hiding the watch behind his back.
-
"I'm not playing this game, Porak, give it back," Cassie said, holding out her hand to take the pocket watch back.
-
Porak sighed. "You never learn. What's the magic word?" he asked.
-
"Please, Porak," Cassie said. And it wasn't her usual fine I'm going to say it. There was actually pleading in her voice.
-
Porak gave her a confused look, but he immediately gave it to her. "S-Sorry." he stammered, a little weirded out by her unusual pleading tone.
-
Cassie took the watch in both hands and pressed it against her heart then walked out of the room.
To Cassie the ticking of the clock was her father's heartbeat. She loved the pocket watch ticking in harmony with her heart beat. It would calm her down.
If it ever got lost or broken then he would truly be gone. -
Porak felt a ping of guilt and shame. He sat down on his bed and wondered why Cassie loved a watch so much.
-
I am Cassie laid on her bed and held the small clock up to her ear. She smiled as she remembered her father's pride in taking out his pocket watch to tell the time and her mother teasing him for it.
-
(not supposed to have 'I am' in there)
-
Didn't know you were Cassie. :0 XD)
"You see my daughter, I had to travel many seas to get this watch." her father had said to her when she was young. -
"And that's why it has a boat on in!" her young little self had said with glee.
Cassie traced the intricate sails with her thumb. She frowned when she remembered her parents' death.
She had been seven. Her family was on an outing. Her father had left his pocket watch at home saying, "We will come home when the house bids us come."
They had been walking down the empty street in the evening. Cassie had been giggling as she held onto her mother and father's hands, occasionally swinging back and forth.
Then there was a man in the street. Her mother had told her to run and hide. I didn't understand why, but I did what they said. She had thought maybe they had been playing hide and seek, but her mother's tone of voice had said that something bad might happen.
Cassandra had peeked out from her hiding spot just in time to see both her parents get shot.
Half of her screamed to run, the other half screamed to go to her parents.
She ended up running away from the place. All the way home. -
Her father had tried his best to protect his family, but it was all in vain, for he ended up dead alongside Cassie's mother.
-
Suddenly Cassie's adopted mom called upstairs, "Supper's ready!"
Cassie put the watch in her pocket then went on her way downstairs.
