"Alright, but you might want a jacket," Christmas said, picking up one of his on the smaller side. "Here, you can have this until we get something better for you." -

"Thank you," Sophia said as she pulled it over her shoulders. She'd never worn a jacket before. -
Christmas: *deflates from exhaustion*))
Christmas tied the leash to Pat's collar and opened the door. The gray dog instantly made a run for it, excited. -

Sophia watched as the dog yanked and pulled Christmas out the door. "What if you take him off of it?" she asked. -
"Then he'll get lost easily," Christmas explained. "He'll get a bit too hyper and run off."

"That makes sense," Sophia said. "At the prison they had a library. I read and read as much as I possibly could. It was the only window we had to a world other than our own. But it was so hard to read about things we had never heard of. They don't teach us things that we're never going to need to know."

"What kind of books did you read?" Christmas said amiably.

"There were some books talking about the exploits of...mad scientists? They told us they didn't teach us science in case we used it to escape."

"They never taught you science?" Christmas said, shooketh. "What did they teach you?"

"Math and reading," Sophia said. "They tried teaching us history once but no one wanted to learn about the place that locked them up."

"I'm sure," Christmas said. "I'll make sure to get you some books for the holidays."

"What holidays?" Sophia asked.

"Christmas," Christmas said. "I just call it "the holidays" because it gets a little confusing."

"Is that what all the little lights are for?" Sophia asked.

"Yep! They're for celebrating," Christmas explained. "Don't they look pretty?"
