They galloped away, leaving the running men in their tracks. Harper drove the horse into the forest. "Sometimes I wonder at what point they say you're not worth it to keep," he said quietly.

"That's what I was thinking," Crypta said, hugging Harper's waist so she wouldn't fly off. "I'd say right about now."

"Agreed," Harper said. "So where are we going?"

"Anywhere but here's fine with me," Crypta said, twisting around to see if they were still being pursued. She let out a sigh of relief when she didn't see anyone.

"You said you wanted to go to that lake house?" Harper asked.

"Yes," Crypta said. "I remember the lake house."

"Can Robo transfer the data so that the horse can take us there?" Harper asked.

"That's a good idea!" Crypta said. "But I need to be in front for that."

Harper slowed down the horse and hopped off, letting Crypta get in front.

Crypta swung herself on with one arm, wincing as she lifted herself on. It had been a while since she'd done that. Actually, it had been a while since she'd even been on a horse. She linked Robo to Pad.

Harper waited on the ground for her to finish. He wasn't sure how long techy stuff usually took.

"Boop. Done," Crypta said, sliding back to give him room. Pad's eyes glowed with a new purpose and charged off.

"Not yet!" Crypta cried, pulling Pad to a halt so Harper could get on. The horse whinnied impatiently, his feet stamping on the ground. -
Harper ran to where the horse was and pulled himself on. "Now you can go," he informed the horse.

The horse thundered forth with a new purpose, joggling Robo around in his straps. The mechanical dog let out a pitiful whine.
