(It's the tap water, it turns the frogs gay)
"I'll be right here," Cain promises. While waiting on Virgil to change he set the photo as his background wallpaper on his phone. He'd never had this much fun before. Ironically, the demon he'd summoned had brought out more humanity in him than anyone else in his life.
Was this what it felt like to live like a normal teenager? Well... not normal, but hanging out with other people was probably a teenager thing. Most of Cain's life was consumed with studying and being the perfect son.
(Two things; 1) I'm definitely drawing da selfie at some point. 2) After this day is over I suggest we timeskip a week so we can be at the point where Virgil has his powers, but we can still describe some of the events that happened during the week and whatnot) -
(LOL. Crazy tap water.
I'm excited for the selfie! And a timeskip sounds smart, we can definitely do that)
Virgil closed the door shut and quickly changed. He enjoyed being near Cain. He couldn't remember the last time he had enjoyed the companionship of another person-- hundreds of years, if his memory served him right.
While he could have always gone and interacted with the other demons in hell, he didn't really like them much. Some were too elementary in their scheming. Some were too soft. And some were just.. Insane. Virgil knew he was going to raise some hell once he could, but he had his limits.
He exited the dressing room, the pile of clothing strewn over an outstretched arm. "Shall we pay for our goods and take off to the next location?" He asked. -
(Dunno if you got the reference or not, it's hard to tell xD)
"Yeah, sure. The next location..," Cain frowns, remembering that the next location was intended to be the barber shop. He'd always wanted longer hair, but his parents would never let him have it. Just last night him and his dad got into a huge argument over dinner about his hair length.
"You know what? Yes, let's go," Cain straightened up and led Virgil to meet Bentley at checkout. Screw what his father wanted. Cain had summoned a demon. He doesn't have to act as perfect as they expect him to be all the time. Cain already had an idea in mind of where him and Virgil could go instead. -
(I DIDN'T LOL
I just thought it was funny)
Virgil followed Cain, humming as he glanced at the sections they were passing. He was content with his selected wares, but it was still nice to see all of the different styles. The world was much, much different than it had been all that time ago-- the demon was in awe at how much more.. Colorful it was. How different people were.
He carefully laid out the outfits across the counter, crossing his arms and watching Bentley. Without looking to Cain, he asked, "So, where are we headed next?" -
(It originates from this video :D)
"Earlier you said you like sweets, so I was thinking a bakery," Cain answer Virgil. Bentley smiles quietly as he listens in on the conversation. "You buying these?" Bentley asks Cain, holding up the rainbiw glasses that stood out againt all the gothic and punk clothes. Cain nods sheepishly. Bentley pats him on the head reassuringly.
"$16.78" Bentley says when he finishes ringing up the items. Cain digs into his pocket and takes out a boring leather wallet. His father had given it to him on his 12th birthday. Cain remembers the way his father looked at him and said 'you're a man now, son.' and it frightened 12 year old Cain to his core because he was much too young. -
(omfg lmao)
Virgil's eyes lighten up at the mention of a bakery. The demon didn't recognize many new things; a bakery was something that was finally familiar.
He watches Bentley and Cain's exchange, noticing the wallet. Virgil shifts, glancing at the glasses, and then back to the wallet. Cain seemed so.. Fun. Colorful. Exciting. To see his wallet-- well, it simply didn't match his persona at all.
"Aren't the glasses just exquisite?" He asks Bentley, grinning. "Cain has good taste." -
"Yes they are," Bentley agrees with Virgil, "Sometimes, when you've been raised to wear a mask, you tend to forget who you were beneath it," Bentley says cleverly.
"That's a cool quote," Cain says with an astonished expression. Bentley had never said anything like that before. Bentley shrugs and smiles, "Read it on the back if a cereal box or something," Bentley laughs. Cain rolls his eyes and picks up the bags, though if you looked closely you could see him smiling at Bentley's silliness.
"Before you go, I want you two to have these," Bentley reaches down a shelf and pulls out two rainbow bracelets. "It'll match the glasses, so I'll give it to ya on the house," he offers. -
When Bentley said his clever quote, Virgil felt his blood chill. Did the old man somehow know that he was a demon? He studies Bentley intently, trying to determine if there is anything special behind his words.
Virgil relaxes as Bentley pulls out bracelets for them. Perhaps it was simply a coincidence. He gently takes the bracelets from the shop owner, dipping his head in gratitude. "Thank you," he says, giving him a warm smile. "You've made this trip very enjoyable, Bentley." -
"You're welcome, kid. Come again, eh? My store is always open for your kind," Bentley pats Virgil on the head before waving goodbye.
Cain waves goodbye to Bentley without a second thought about Bentley's word choice. "Bentley's cool, he always tries to give me little accesories or trinkets before I leave. I usually turn them down," Cain says. He had a certain twinkle in his eyes, like this had been the most enjoyable day out in his life. -
Virgil, unlike Cain, definitely notices the word choice. His smile fidgets, and he feigns a short laugh before turning on his heels and following Cain out of the store.
"Aww, Cain, you really ought to accept his gifts more often. Such a gentle lad." He smooths his shirt down, trying to keep his cool until they're outside and a few feet away. Just as he's about to mention his growing suspicion, he notices the sparkle in Cain's eyes.
He swallows, looking away from the boy and deciding not to bring it up. Virgil doesn't want to ruin Cain's good mood. Bentley is just some old man; even if he does somehow know, it doesn't matter. At least, that's what Virgil tells himself. -
"I'll put the bags in the backseat," Cain says with a little smile. He takes the bags from Virgil and opens his car door to put them inside. Cain wonders if he should ask Virgil for his bracelet so that they could wear it and be matching, but he ultimately decided there was no rush or anything.
"What kind of sweets do you prefer? There's an icecream shop not to far from here, but there's another place I like that sells baked goods.." Cain says as he opens the door for Virgil.
There was a certain thrill to actively avoiding his father's instructions to get a haircut. How would he react at dinner tonight? Why did his reaction not matter to Cain as much as it used to? Cain was filled with excitement and fear, and he loved the juxtaposed feelings. -
Virgil waits for Cain to put the bags away before holding out one of the bracelets. The demon couldn't read minds; it was simply a coincidence that the two had thought about the matching bracelets at the same time.
"I haven't had sweets in hundreds of years," he comments. "I honestly couldn't tell you, simply because I don't know." -
(Dark every time you reply to this role play and the death role play I smile so wide. Like.. I don't smile much since quarantine started, but your responses always make my day, even before I read them. I appreciate you and I value the things you create and the person you are)
"We'll have to try out all of them for the duration of your stay here then. Thank you," Cain says as he takes the bracelet offered to him. His fingers brushes against Virgil's for a split second, and it makes him tense up. Was he still afraid of Virgil? No, that couldn't be it.
Cain smiles nervously, unsure of what to think of his own reaction. "Better hop to it then," He says as he slides on the bracelet and then into the car. -
(ummm if your goal was to make me cry, it worked omg. i am not used to people being so supportive dkdkdjdjdjdnd THANK YOU!!!! I really missed RP'ing and it feels amazing to be writing with you again 💖)
"Sounds like fun," Virgil replies, slowly grinning. "Also sounds like a lot of eating.. You're going to make me eat more than I ever have in my entire lifespan, aren't you?"
He follows Cain's lead, sliding into the passenger side of the car. Once he's situated, he looks out the window, leaning his elbow against the side of the door. He wasn't thinking about his goal of destruction; he could only think about how much fun he was having with Cain. -
(I didn't mean to make you cry oh gosh 😅 Just wanna let you know that you're appreciated. I just suddenly felt like you don't hear it nearly enough!! Love writing with you as well <3)
Cain starts up the car as he replies, "That depends on how much you've eaten in your lifespan!" Cain had decided to go for the bakery. It was past midday and the bakery would offer lunch items on the menu as well as sweets.
"Radio's all yours. We only have time for one song though, since the bakery isn't that far," Cain offered to Virgil.
