Tjruna was quiet as they started to ride, but as the sun started to rise into day she grew restless. She hadn't traveled on the main roads in a while, and she had jumped every time they passed an early morning shipment or someone on their way to work. "Are you sure this horse can't go any faster? I'm sure I could run to Aarnar faster." She scoffed.
-
Dorvakin said "We are going at a decent speed. Over working your horse right out the gate is a bad idea. If you don't like it, then you can just run like you said."
-
Tjruna sighed and crossed her arms, then grabbed the back of Dorvakin's shirt after she almost fell. She swore under her breath and prepared to settle in for a long, hopefully silent ride. At least, she hoped he wouldn't want to talk. The less she had to get to know this guild member the better.
-
As the day moved on, Dorvakin rode with Tjruna on Earthquake to get to Aarnar quickly. Eventually, they made it within plenty of time and Dorvakin slowed down so as not to run someone over in the city.
-
"Finally!" Tjruna pushed herself off of Earthquake and took a minute to stretch. Aarnar was no utopia by any means, and things could get real shady after the sun went down. She turned up to look at Dorvakin. "Well, do you want to look like a pratt? Walk the horse through the city like everyone else."
-
Dorvakin got off Earthquake and started pulling him along like Tjruna said. He then asked "So where exactly are we supposed to go in this town?"
-
Tjruna didn't turn back, but she called out over her shoulder as she walked. It was only around lunchtime and already the city was bustling with life. "I have a contact who can smuggle us onto a shipping caravan to travel the rest of the way to the crash site. It'll be less conspicuous than two people traveling alone across the countryside. The only problem is, it's a little... early for him. We'll have to find some way to occupy ourselves until then. For now..." She stopped and turned to face Dorvakin, gesturing to an old faded sign hanging over a small crooked door. "I suggest lunch."
-
Dorvakin said "Alright. But I'm not really that hungry. What do you suggest?"
-
Tjruna gave him an odd look. "Not hungry? We've been traveling for ages." She shook her head and looked up at the faded sign. "I've been here plenty of times before. Two theives should blend in in nicely. Besides, it's a good way to pass some time." She looked at Earthquake. "But then again, the horse..."
-
Dorvakin said "What about him?"
-
"Well you can't just bring a horse into a restaurant! Well, I have seen drunkards bring their horses into The Sly, but here in Aarnar we would just draw too much attention to ourselves. I think we have to find a stable for him for while we're here. We can pay for it with the money that man gave us." She looked at Dorvakin. "That is, if you want to. If not you can always stand here with the horse."
-
Dorvakin gave Tjruna a confused look and said "Who said anything about bringing Earthquake into a restaurant? And more importantly, how drunk are patrons at The Sly that bringing a horse into a pub is a good idea?" He then looked at some posts on the buildings and said "Why don't we just tie him to a nearby post? That would be easier and cheaper."
-
Tjruna laughed. "Oh, so you're an idiot! You can't just tie a horse to a pole in a city and expect it to still be there when you get back!" She turned back to the door of the restaurant. "If you're that attaches to the horse, I coild always go in and buy you something together eat while you wait outside."
-
Dorvakin argued "First of all, I am not attached to Earthquake. I just don't see how bringing an animal that has no control over it's bowel movements into a bar is considered a good thing. Second, I'd like to see someone try and steal a Guild Horse. The only reason I was even able to take Earthquake is because he knows who I am. Anyone who tries and steal him gets a swift kick in the shins."
-
Tjruna scowled. If anything, spending all of this time with her new "partner" was reminding her of just how overcomplicated guilds made things. "Fine then. How do you suppose we should kill time without drawing any more attention to ourselves than we already have?" She stepped to the side as a man carrying several crates passed her.
