"She's the forgemaster here. Cyra's an easy spot, just look for a girl with red hair like mine and red tinted arms from dipping them so often into lava," Hunter explained. Though they were resistant to fire, Cyra's continuous blacksmith work really pushed that resistance to its limits.
-
Annabelle said "Then let's go in." She walked forward, opened the door and walked into the building. It was hot in there due to all the the forges and fires going on in there.
-
There were tables that lined the wall and many people were walking around and working with hammers, anvils, and assortments of tools Hunter couldn't name. Multiple furnaces were fired up, and sweat was just as prevalent as metal was. Hunter looked around for Cyra.
-
Annabelle also looked around until a goblin got her attention and pointed to a woman that matched Hunter's description. She said to Hunter "I think I found her."
-
Hunter looked at where Annabelle was indicating. Cyra was indeed hammering away at a sword at the far side of the building. "Hey, cuz!" Hunter greeted loudly to be heard above all of the clanging. He started to lead them closer, but as they made their way through Cyra's expression became more readable and it was clear that she wasn't happy to see them.
-
Annabelle followed Hunter and once they got to Cyra, she said "So this is the famous, weapons-smith, Cyra. She seems almost displeased to see us." She then sarcastically said "Did we come at a bad time?"
-
(Quaking because I've just realized I've made a huge mistake but I'm gonna roll with it)
Cyra looked Annabelle over, and then did the same to Hunter. "So you are alive. I'd half-hoped that the whisperings weren't true and that you had died during the massacre of Widowmire. I'd hoped that you hadn't truly left your parents to die and then started constructing a caste on the ash of so many innocent lives because of your... little girlfriend," Cyra once again appraised Annabelle, looking pissed. -
(That's how we do.)
Annabelle chuckled and said to Hunter "Our reputation precedes us." She then walked closer to Cyra and said, getting angrier as she talked, "You really think all of those people were innocent? The same people who did nothing but call me names like "Witch-Girl" and "Succubus?" The same people who would throw their rotten fruit at me because of my powers? The same people who treated me with nothing but hate, when all I did was breathe near them? Those people?" -
"Yes, those people," Cyra said, unafraid of Annabelle's proximity. "Oh, boohoo, you were bullied. I didn't know that being rude to someone was punishable by death." Cyra now looked at Hunter as she said, "Not everyone died during your little temper tantrum, though."
-
Annabelle's trident began faintly glow with electricity at her comments. Annabelle then said "You don't think we know that? We'll find them."
-
"Find who?" Cyra said with mock innocence. She looked at the power rippling through Annabelle and put her hands up before saying, "Listen here, little blackberry. I'm not so full of pride that I can't admit when an opponent is stronger than me. I don't know why you decided to come here, but if you promise to leave this town alone I'll do whatever you need done." She motioned for the blacksmiths around her to lower their weapons as a gesture of good grace. Everyone was on edge, wondering if a fight would break out.
-
The goblins looked at the blacksmiths with their own weapons and snarled at them. Thankfully, Annabelle stopped her magic and motioned them to stand down, which they did. Annabelle said "Hunter told me you were the best blacksmith around and as such, I wish for you to set up shop in my castle and build weapons for my army. And don't call me Blackberry. That is Hunter's right only."
-
"Aww, babe," Hunter cooed. Cyra rolled her eyes. "If I'm cooped up in your castle, how can I ensure that you don't mess with Calnace? I want the people here protected from your forces," Cyra said. Hunter's expression became less playful. "This isn't a negotiation." He said, looking at Annabelle to see what say she.
-
Annabelle motioned for Hunter to stand down and let her talk. She said "How about this? If you willingly move to the castle and make the weapons I need, I will personally guarantee the safety of Calnace. No matter what, no one, not even a dragon, will touch this place. Deal?"
-
"A deal sealed with steel," Cyra said, and she reached out to shake Annabelle's hand. It was the most sacred promise a forgemaster could make. Some of the blacksmiths around her looked worried, like they would argue and start a riot over losing Cyra's skill, but Cyra shook her head no at them and they quieted.
