"Other ponies suck." Sekhmet responded flatly, but followed her eagerly nonetheless. "I know a nice place we can go to. I'll even buy. You should really try their pear crisp."
Another thought occurred to her as the unicorn seemed to move without hesitation.
"How do you know where you're going, anyway?" -
“ oh! I love pear! Do you like peaches?” Smokey asks curiously as they leave.
“ Well, I know the general direction works like a clock, my shift patterns aren’t randomised. So I’ve been able to memorise direction.” She says. -
Sekhmet was a little surprised by the successful guess, but nodded before she realized she was still trailing behind the other pony, out of sight.
"I love peaches." she answered quietly. She felt a touch of relief as the door they had entered through came into sight- and Smokey was absolutely right. Without her guide, the alicorn would have been completely lost in this new layout. She rushed ahead now, stopping at the door and bouncing a little on her hooves.
"Is it locked? Do you have to tell the house to let us out? Can I just walk out?" she asked each question in rapid succession. -
“ you could just walk out, since you’re with me. An intruder, if they even got in, couldn’t get back out.” She revealed, “ ...honestly I could add you into the house, since you”re...a lot more trustworthy than anyone else I’ve spoken to, but I’ll do that once my machine can recognise fakes.” She shrugs.
“ so let’s eat!” She says before she jumps onto the first little pathway from her complicated house. -
Sekhmet paused for a second before following after the unicorn.
"What makes you think I'm trustworthy? We just met." she called ahead, trotting along behind her. She realized it would be difficult to lead the way from behind, and picked up the pace to pull ahead and steer the both of them toward the place of her choice. -
“I...just kind of get that vibe you know? I mean I wouldn’t completely trust you or anything...you’re just...nice?” She says.
Smokey looks very excited to see the restaurant. -
"Enough to let me into your home." Sekhmet carried on. She wasn't sure why exactly she was talking like this now. Was she trying to convince Smokey that she wasn't trustworthy? Wasn't kind? "You need to be more careful than that, especially now."
By the time they reached Filly Jean's Cafe, she was sure she'd already lost the possibility of making a friend out of Smokey, before she'd even committed to trying. Nonetheless, they were partners, and it was important to stick close by her and learn her mannerisms. -
“ nahhh, if you were a changeling you’d have tired to take my designs.” Smokey says. “ You didn’t and rather than stay and learn more of my house, you insisted we leave. That proves to me that you”re at least a little trustworthy.”

Or jumpier than a long-tailed cat in a rocking chair warehouse.
Sekhmet didn't correct Smokey's logic this time, holding the door for her on their way in instead and finding them a table. The place was mostly empty, and the few ponies that occupied it glanced up at the two almost fearfully when they entered. News had definitely spread. Sekhmet marveled briefly at the power of the Equestria rumor mill. The highest ranking officers of the guard had only just learned of the changeling invasion this morning, and already, news had spread.
She flipped open a menu and tried to be unassuming, hoping the strange eyes would lose interest in she and Smokey soon.
