Gamma sat down next to Embla and Bart stayed on his shoulder. Grantor sat by himself. The wizard sat down and said "Now to tell you everything. I am Norik, wizard of old. And I have come to you to help you in a great journey."
-
"Please. My whole life is a great journey." Matilda scoffed, remembering all the trouble she had to go through to get respect as a fighter. "But please, continue." She added with a smile. She smirked at Sally's torment. She could tell that Sally wanted to lecture her for her rude behaviour. But couldn't.
-
''Seriously Matilda? We all have a great journey, and journey is called life,'' Embla hummed with a grin. ''Though, Norik, the old wizard please tell us about this journey and thr cloud that keeps making everyone go crazy,'' Embla hummed, interested in what the wizard has to say.
-
Norik said "This cloud, called Malice, is controlled by a dark being. It can take over the minds of living creatures and make them attack to spread the corruption." Gamma remembered the bite the wolf gave him and looked at it. Norik said "Don't worry my robotic friend. You would have changed instantly if you could be affected by the Malice wolf."
-
Sally smiled at Embla's inspiring words. "Aww. That, is so wise and sweet! Who told you that? Your mommy?" Matilda asked Embla with a smirk. "So you can't trust us either..." Sally realized. "She has a good point... For once." Matilda commented, turning to them. "What's to stop this cloud from mutating us?" Matilda asked, remembering the Oark villiage.
-
''Well, at least I listen and respect others, unlike you. It's called you listen and you learn, maybe you should acquire that skill before you die on the battlefield, Matilda'' Embla said, her words coming out as pure venom. ''It's easy to say we can't trust Matilda, already infected by the Malice, how sad, should I be the one to kill her? I'll do it, not problem,'' Embla huffed, not wanting to be disrespected by some pathetic, rude mouthed human. She crossed her arms over her chest, her anger boiling.
-
Norik started getting irritated and said "Embla, Matilda, if you both don't shut it and listen, I will take both of your mouths away. I mean it." He calmed down and said "Anyway. The Malice has existed since our world began. Originally controlled by Malechor the Dark, he was jealous of the gifts his brother, Malegar, was giving to his creation, us. He was defeated by 5 chosen heroes from all races." As he said all of this, the fire showed images of what Norik was saying.
-
Matilda tried. Matilda tried so hard to keep emotion locked up. But at this girl's words an angry tear broke in her eye. She stood up and ran to the forest before Norik began to speak, not wanting to give anyone the pleasure of seeing her cry. All this hard work... And a strangers opinion is what tears it down!?! She thought, pacing back in forth as she tried to keep all the anger, pain, fear, and guilt that she had kept inside her for most of her life contained. She couldn't risk these emotions leaking out. They would make her weak and drag her back down to the bottom. They would put her in danger in a world she worked so hard to get ahead of.
"As rude as she is... I think there's more to her than we know. She hasn't confirmed this yet. But I've heard from some other angels recently of a warrior that was a human. Since she was a human, she grew up as a human, so she was often assumed to be weak and an easy prey for other creatures. Having no parents, the warrior had to take this matter into her own hands. She made poison darts to help her become the top. I was going to ask Matilda if she was that warrior. But she cut me off... I don't like her behaviour anymore than you do. But there may be a reason for it." Sally told the group. She then listened to the story and watched the fire. -
''He was defeated by the five creatures? And he's back again to corrupt the world, and we're the new chosen ones to put him back in his place,'' Embla questioned, her voice strained from the sudden feeling of guilt. To see such a strong human like Matilda so easily offended hurt. No matter, I'll learn to understand her on this journey to defeat Malice, maybe we'll come to an understanding Embla thought, her finger wrapping around a piece of grass.
-
Norik was impressed by Embla's ability to quickly put two and two together. He said "You learn quick my fellow Dracomorph, but there is still more to the story. The chosen ones, called The Guardians, sealed Malechor in a powerful prisim. However, his influence didn't end there. He always possessed those baring a weak will and began his Malice anew. The Guardians were also always made to defeat them and they took many incarnations over time but always with the same races. There was even Guardians in the war, 1000 years ago, of which I was a part of as the Mage."
-
Matilda growled at herself for not being able to stop tears. She took deep breaths but the more she tried to calm herself down the more panicked she got. The more panicked she got the more frustrated. And the more frustrated she got the more tears came. She couldn't go back looking so pathetic. But if she walked too far the magic of Sally's Halo would teleport her to Matilda. Matilda sighed. She attempted to wipe her tears away again as it began to rain. Matilda smiled, enjoying the rain. The rain allowed her to calm down and give her an excuse to help cover up her tear stained face. She let her face get covered in rain to wash it before walking back towards the others.
Sally used her magic to put a barrier around them so they would stay dry as it rained and so the fire wouldn't go out. She focused on the barrier and made it open a bit to let Matilda in when she saw Matilda coming. "Are you Okay?" She asked. "Of course." Matilda replied, forcing a chuckle as she rolled her eyes. "But your worry flatters me." She said in a purposely egotistical voice. -
Embla bit her bottom lip, in thought. ''Alright, so we have to not only defeat Malice but, defeat the ones with a weak will in which he has possessed? If I'm right, how are we supposed to defeat them without having to kill the host? I mean, Malice is much like a parasite, we'll have to kill the host or until the parasite is finished feeding off the host. Let alone, what if Malice is able to possess one us, what then?'' Embla stated, questions leaving passed her lips as she felt the piece of grass wrapped around her finger break. The piece of grass was still securely wrapped around her finger as she gazed at the elder Dracomorph.
-
Norik said "Well that's just it you see. Guardians are given a special mark infused with magic. It makes them immune to the Malice corruption." He rolled down his sleeve and showed them his star shaped mark. He said "Unfortunately, only those who chose to stay Guardians get to keep this. I am the only one." Gamma asked "What happened to the others?" Norik answered "They all split up after our human leader, Iruini, was corrupted by Malechor after he left us after the war." He shed a single tear.
-
Matilda blinked. "So humans can be the leaders? First time I didn't have torture someone to hear that." Matilda told him, fidgeting with a daisy she picked. She began plucng off petals and tossing them to the fire. Sally frowned as she watched the fire absorb and devour each petal before Matilda tossed the stem itself into the fire from boredom.
-
Embla squinted her eyes into a glare towards Matilda, not believing what she hard. Her people, the Dracomorphs were normally the leaders of such a pack. ''It's fine, you can be the leader and I'll be the brains of the operation, making sure you people don't die,'' Embla mumbled, picking at the broken pieces of grass. ''It'll be a good time, maybe I can tinker with Gamma's machinery, oh that'll be fun!'' Embla cheered, excited to improve Gamma's machine gun.
