Archaios chuckled softly at her
-
"What's so funny?" She asked.
-
"nothing" he said as he shook his head, smiling faintly
-
Soon, the party ended. Like Lan, many of the Giesa were very tired. So they were allowed to go to their rooms while the servants cleaned up. "Goodbye..." Lan yawned with a clumsy bow. She laughed and walked upstairs to go to bed.
-
The next morning Lan helped the servants dust the books. Madam Chen didn't approve of a pretty girl helping servants so Lan was sent to have a walk in town. Lan played with the children and bowed to the men that she passed. She helped a busy woman carry in her groceries, gave a little boy a boost so he could climb a tree to get an apple, and then finally took a break to sit on a bench.
The bench was a peaceful one that was made from cherry wood. It was built in a nice field with many wild flower! The bench had daisies planted next to it. And nearby was a large hill. On top of the hill was Madam Changchang Pationa's Home for Orphaned Girls. Lan didn't notice, but as an 11 year old girl, she sat on that bench every day. -
-
Archaios sighed as he walked through town, dressed in civilian clothes so he wouldn't attract any attention
-
(He sees Lan and follows her?)
Since no one was around, Lan began to read her books. Now that she was an adult, she was allowed to have a library card! She read out loud and imagined the story taking place around her. -
Archaios heard her and he started walking over, smiling faintly
-
Lan read on, lost in the world her story created.
-
Archaios saw her and smiled before walking over and sitting next to her
-
Lan read on but soon gained the feeling she was being watched. She put down her book and looked around. When she saw Archaios she jumped from shock and almost fell off the bench.
-
Archaios laughed at her "sorry for startling you
-
"I-I-it's okay." Lan stuttered, picking up the book she dropped and putting it back in her bag. "I-I'm not really supposed to read... So I came here... It's the only place with no people... Since that orphanage closed down 5 years ago." She sighed, looking up at the building. "Wait a second..." She added.
She realized the familiarity of the building. She didn't recognize it because the signs were torn down and the windows were boarded up. But she then realized it was the orphanage she stayed at when she was young. "So... That means..." She thought out loud, looking down at the bench. -
