The invaders pass through the forest. Once far enough away, they start talking. "She killed Kovi and Kavu! These lives will be mine in revenge!" purrs one, a she-cat by voice. The laughter of the others mingles with hers.
A young she-cat is watching from the trees. "No!" she meows, her amber eyes wide with horror. "The young ones cannot be killed! Kavu wouldn't want it!" Alas, if only the older cat knew. Then two young lives would not be wasted. She will wait until morning, though. She settles down to watch for a patrol. -
Thorn kit meowed, then shook his pelt.
-
The young she-cat rushes away. She has a mission. She has no time. What was she thinking of, waiting?
"Clan cats! Clan cats! Come quick!" she calls.
Ivystar woke, hearing a cat call. She realized something was wrong, and when she stood up to and see what it was, she found out.
Snowkit and Ravenkit were gone.
"Are you the leader?" she she-cat gasped as Ivystar stepped out. Ryefall had also heard, and she came out of her den. "Yes," meowed Ivystar urgently. "Speak up, what is it?" asked Ryefall briskly.
"Two of your kits have been stolen! They plan to kill them at dawn!" meowed the she-cat urgently.
Ryefall and Ivystar exchanged a glance that said everything. "What is your name?" Ivystar asked. Names held power.
The she-cat looked at her. "My name is Kovi." -
Thornkit shook his pelt. He heard a very faint call sound in the distance.
-
Ivystar nodded. Kovi spoke truth, and knowing her name, she could trust her. "I can take you to them. Follow me." Kovi meowed. Without checking to see if they where following her, she pushed into the wild forest.
Ivystar and Ryefall looked around, but every other cat was asleep. Then, together, they set off after Kovi. Even if it was a trap, it was a sacrifice they where willing to make. For Ivystar, it was love and fear that drove her on, for Ryefall, it was love and sympathy for her sister, and the threat that hung over her Clan, the innocent kits' lives. -
Thornkit stood up. His mother opened her eyes and yawned. She looked over at her kit, her sweet, inocent kit. "What is it? Did you hear something? Do you need anything?" Thornkit huffed and shook his head. "No, its okay. I'm fine." Sweetflower slowly got up and shook her pelt. "I'm going to dirt-place. Stay here."
As Sweetflower padded out, she looked up at the sky. Sparkling stars dotted the jet-black sky. Sweetflower purred and moved on. -
Kovi led them further away from their home, finally crossing the border into the wild. She pointed at a tunnel. "Down there," she meowed.
The she-cat hisses, though it is part joy. "My allies," she meows, her words echoing. "My servents." It is clear that she is superior. "I have the kits. Now the greatest revenge is mine! As payment for the deaths of Kavu and Kovi, I will kill the she-kit and train the tom! For moons, it has been my sweet dream to hear her agonized cry! The cry as the foretold son tears his claws into her! Kavu, my son! Kovi, my daughter! Now, at last, you can sleep! I will avenge you! My dream has come true!" It is clear from her red eyes and she way she smiles that she has gone so mad with grief, she thinks she is healing. The fury that burns when she speaks of that cat!
In the rock den at the edge of the clearing, another cat heard. He took a long, sorrowful look at the peaceful, sleeping cat beside him, then stood up and leaned out of the den. His black pelt was disguised in the shadows. He was safe. For now.
Ivystar, Ryefall and Kovi crept closer. Kovi nodded towards the rocks. "There," she whispered. Ivystar crept forward, hardly daring to breath. But Ryefall held her back. "No. You'll glow in the faint light." Ivystar knew she was right. "Let me go." But she knew better. "No. I'll go." And with that, she erupted from their stony hiding place with a growl. "You'll never take them from me!"
The she-cat turns, now, so her foe can see her face. "Ivypaw," she purrs. "You killed Kovi. You killed Kavu! Now I kill you! Confess before you die!"
Ivystar dipped her head. "As you wish. Kovi, Kavu and I fell down the cliff together. The fall killed Kavu. We buried him, then Kovi ran away."
"You pushed them! And my sweet Kavu pulled you over!" the she-cat responds, grimacing.
"Kavu would never harm her." Kovi spoke, stepping out.
"Tell them who your mother is!" gasped the cat. "Don't lie to me!"
Kovi nodded. "I do not have a mother. I disclaim you."
The she-cat looked shocked, disbelieving, but ran to the edge of the cave. With horror, the other cats realized there was a cliff. The she-cat never paused, running up and over the edge. She didn't scream, but they all heard the crunch of death. -
Thornkit felt a wave of grief from a she-cat. He wondered who she was. Were they related? He shrugged.
-
Kovi walked up to the edge. The strange cats shrank away from her. "You never treated me right. You coddled me. You let Kavu explore but kept me like a pet. But I'm sorry you died. The rest of you," her face hardened. "The rest of you, leave." She turned to Ivystar. "My friend. Can I join your Clan?"
Ivystar, licking Ravenkit and Snowkit, paused to nod. "Yes, of course." -
Thornkit spat and sat. (XD)
Sweetflower returned. -
(O.O LOL) The party returned. Ravenkit looked around to see where they were. Snowkit his sister hadn't opened her eyes yet.
-
Thronkit mewoed happily. His mother returned to sleeping. He sighed and looked out of the camp entrance.
-
Kovi dipped her head. "I'll sleep outside." She knew cats wouldn't want to wake to find a strange cat sleeping in their camp.
Ivystar settled back in her nest. -
thornkit shrugged, going back to sleep. He saw a tom, a sandy gray tom, staring at him. "Who are you?" Thronkit asked.
-
Ravenkit purred. His family was asleep. His eyelids drooped.
Poppypelt coughed.
