Jasper was getting ready for bed at that point. He set his wand down on his pillow, and took off his tie and belt, setting both of those with his robe. Once he was only wearing his shirt, pants and underwear, he got his blue checkered pajamas from his chest and walked towards the door so he could go to the bathroom and change. But, as he passed Milo's bed, his eyes narrowed at all of the things he was pulling out. "Are those pets?" He said the word with a tone of disgust, looking around the boy on the sheets, to see what he was getting out. "You can't have those here, every student is only allowed one, and there are only three types that you can have. And judging by the fact that you have an empty owl cage, I'd say that is your chosen beast."
-
He looked up, a hurt look suddenly spreading across his face. "They're not hurting anyone, though. In fact, most of them are really nice." Milo reached for one of the little clear boxes, opening the lid and taking from it a medium-sized Rosy Boa. The creature slithered around his fingers and hand, its tongue shooting out every now and then as it noticed its surroundings. He held out his hand to Jasper, showing him the orange and white reptile. "This is Pasta. I know, her name's a bit weird, but my little sister named her when she was three. You can pet her if you'd like." Two or three of the other cages contained snakes, and most of them contained reptiles. He knew from experience that, even if he kept them apart, having reptiles and rodents at the same time was a bad idea.
-
While the Slytherin trademark was a snake, and supposedly the Slytherin students weren't afraid of anything, this was not true for him. He stook a step back, staring at the scaly creature. "God, no, it's looking at me weird. It's going to bite me. Is it poisonous?" He shook his head at the snake, not wanting to get any closer to it. "Keep those things away from me or I'll report you to the prefect." He held his pants up with his had, as without his belt they'd started to fall and waddled back towards the door again. Though, this time, he went backwards, still focused on the animal. "The first time I see one outside of your bed, that's it. And if one bites me, then the headmaster will hear about it."
-
He sat back down on the bed, disappointed. He was about to start comforting the creature when the other snakes started calling out to him from their own boxes. He knew that being able to communicate with the serpents was abnormal, even for a wizard, so he'd always kept it a secret. Then again, what if it made the rest of the house like him more? He decided that he'd wait a while to see how the first part of the term would go, and then, if he still wanted to, he would share. For now, though, he couldn't respond to Pasta with others around, even though she sounded concerned about the other boy's dislike of her. Meanwhile, his three other snakes, Limbo, Delta, and Ginger, were curious as to why they weren't allowed out like their friend was. He hissed his quiet apologies as he started to put the cages and boxes under the bed.
-
He hurried out of the room, and into the bathroom that was in the first-year's room. The door, which was off to the left, opened to a ten-stall restroom, with sinks on the opposite wall of the stall. He slipped into one in the back that happened to be open, and quickly changed into his pajamas, feeling much better now that he was out of his restricting school clothes. Stepping out with his pants and shirt draped over his arm, Jasper started back towards the fourth year room. The beds were starting to fill up, as other people were getting to bed as well. When he came into the fourth year room, he went straight to his bed, trying to avoid any more encounters with Milo and his terrible, terrible lizards. He tucked his clothes in his chest, and snatched his wand from his pillow, putting it with his clothes snuggly. Once this was all complete, he sat down on his bed, facing the foot end of it with his legs crossed, and started studying from his potions book while the light was still on.
-
By the time Jasper returned, Milo had finally managed to get Pasta into her container. The others hadn't posed much of a problem, even though they kept asking to share the bed or explore the room. Later, he told them, they might be able to. As the other boy walked in, he offered him a friendly smile, but stood crestfallen as it went ignored. He grabbed his pajamas and bag of toiletries from his trunk, and headed out of the room. The newcomer intended to take a shower before bed.
He swung his bag as he walked, going past the boys' restrooms and all the way to the end of the hall. A painting was positioned awkwardly there, portraying a massive tree with bark that resembled a face. It suddenly looked at the boy, and smiled. "Password?"
"Crosswick, criss-cross," he replied. The painting swung open, revealing the currently-empty bathroom meant specifically for Hogwarts's trans students. It was definitely more comfortable than the other bathroom would've been, especially since he had it to himself. -
Jasper studied, reading page after page, until one of the seventh year prefects came down into each room. He was calling that lights out would be in half an hour, and everyone would have to be in bed by the next hour with their own light sources. Jasper stayed with his book, until he got bored after five minutes and closed it. Instead, he went to talk to one of his buddies, sitting on the edge of their bed while chatting about what work they had to do for their classes. The half an hour passed rather quickly, he felt, he in no time at all he was walking back to his own bed in the dark. Of course, people were still walking around visiting each other and going to the bathroom with the ends of their wands glowing, but Jasper didn't have anyone that he really wanted to talk to. So he laid back on his bed, opting to go to sleep.
-
Milo returned twenty minutes later, his usually-fluffy hair flat and drying in clumps after the shower. Halfway through, a girl had come in and, once they were both done changing, she introduced herself as Jenny Kinder, a fifth year in Hufflepuff. He headed back sleepily, humming a song he'd have to figure out how to play on his uke. He realized that, given how many purebloods were in Slytherin, not many of his housemates would recognize or care about the song. While he wanted to feel welcome in this group, he realized that he wouldn't do well here without some friends in other houses. Jenny could be counted as his first.
He returned to the dorm and put away his clothes, then climbed into bed. He fell asleep almost instantly, exhausted by all of the new things he'd taken in that day. -
While many of the people from other houses rumored that the Slytherin dorms were probably creepy and underkempt, just because they were in the dungeons, most of the actual inhabitants of the place loved it. The water outside the windows made soft sounds against the windows and walls, that were sort of lulling. And, if you listened closely, you could even hear the faint humming of mermaids deep in the lake. While the Gryffindors thought they were so cool with their tower of a house, Jasper felt quite lucky to live in Slytherin, with its green lights and lake sounds. In no time at all, after the same prefect as before came down the hall to tell them all to get into bed, Jasper was asleep, tucked under his covers securly.
-
He slept soundly, the noises of the lake peacefully keeping him in deep slumber. He eventually pulled the blanket over his head and clutched the pillow close, as if spooning it. Fortunately, none of his new roommates snored. At least his first night in Slytherin was a peaceful one.
-
He slept soundly until, in the early morning, the green lights on the ceiling slowly relit themselves until they were casting their glow over the rooms again. It wasn't really the lights that woke him up, but the sound of the people who had woken from the light. Jasper yawned, and rolled onto his stomach, but ended up having no choice but to get up. He had early morning Arithmancy, and it was a class that he would fail in if he missed five minutes of it. Soon, while Jasper was starting to get his clothes together to go to the bathroom and shower and change, the prefects came around the room, using their wands to oh-so-politely flick the blankets off of anyone who was still sleeping.
-
Milo woke to the feeling of immediate cold, due to the fact that a prefect had whooshed away his blankets. Drowsy and hardly alert, the boy got up and slowly moved over to his trunk. No one else was in the room once he'd been forced awake, so he shut the door and rapidly changed next to his bed. He quickly brushed out his hair, which was suffering from a severe case of bedhead. He was about to head down to breakfast, but remembered that his assortment of pets needed to be fed as well. He'd created two containers, one full of mice that were transfigured into buttons, and the other full of crickets that were turned into grains of rice. Grabbing his wand and the two jars. This way, the boy could transport food and then easily change them back when needed. He grabbed his wand and the jars, then crawled partially under the bed to give them their meals.
-
Finished with his shower, and completely dressed, jasper went back to the fourth year room. He was sort of wondering why he found the door closed, but shrugged it off, and opened it up so he could go in and put his pajamas away and get his wand. When he came in, however, he found Milo half under his bed. "Do I dare ask what you're doing?" He questioned, as he passed the boy on his way back to his bed. "You'll be late for breakfast if you spend your morning crawling around under your bed. I promise you, there is no secret trapdoor there." He put his clothes in his chest, and got his wand out, along with his Arithmancy and Potions books.
-
He'd been speaking to the snakes, who were asking if they could go along with him to class, in Parseltongue. He stopped as soon as he heard Jasper's voice, and bumped his head on the bottom of the bed. There was a muffled ow! and he crawled back out, screwing the lid shut on the jar of buttons. "They were hun-- Sorry, I shouldn't be talking about them to you. They won't bite you, you know." Milo put away the jars and pulled on his robes, then grabbed his Care of Magical Creatures and Potions textbooks. He waited by the door for his housemate, knowing he still couldn't easily find his way around the castle.
-
Jasper quickly caught on rather quickly that Milo was talking about those pets of his again, and scrunched up his nose. He didn't even want to think about the slimy things being in the same room as him. "No, you shouldn't. And while they might not bite you, I'm not so sure about myself. And if I get bitten, they get stepped on." He went towards the door, and realized that Milo was waiting for him. "You aren't planning on following me, are you? I'm going to breakfast to study, not to chat."
