"I've lived my life with two feet in this one just fine," Jasper stated, just as surely of himself. He couldn't picture at all how the muggle world was important. Whatever they did was almost completely seperate from what the wizarding world did, and Jasper wanted nothing to do with it. Hearing someone be so positive about the muggle world was a little weird, and while Jasper didn't want to be involved with it, he did kind of want to know about it. He'd heard some of the few mud blood Slytherin talking about things like football and BBC, all of which sounded odd and interesting. But he would never bother to ask questions about it. "Me? Well... I'm the third child of Goddard and Marriam Asflynn, who were both prefects while they were in Hogwarts for Gryffindor. I'm a beater for the Slytherin Quidditch team, and I'll be one for England one day." He said this all with a deep pride, quite proud of his family name and accomplishments.
-
He listened, frowning about halfway through. So it was true. Or, at least, it seemed to be. "So that's actually how it works here? You graduate and then you just... get married? To whoever you were dating while you were here?" He looked down to his mostly eaten potatoes. Not that there was anything wrong with that, but he couldn't imagine doing something like that. "They have to wait at least a little while, right?"
He paused, realizing that most of the people in the room were starting to head back up to their dorms. He had no idea where his was. Could Milo really trust this guy? For now, he supposed he'd have to. "Wanna head back to the dorms for the night? I need someone to show me there." -
He rolled his eyes, shaking his head. "No, that's ridiculous. My parents just happened to get on well. Not everyone marries right out of here. But you can get married whenever you'd like to after school, or if your parents are insane they can give you permission before then." He looked up, as well, when the guy sitting to his right walked off. He saw the headmaster get out his wand, and since he'd hardly eaten he snatched up a roasted chicken leg, and held it in his hand. A second later, all of the food and plates were gone, save for the leg that he held. "You can follow me if you want, but I'm stopping at the bathroom and I'm no tour guide."
-
"Works for me, I need to go as well." He wasn't impressed by the food disappearing; some procedures seemed to be the same at every magic school.
He followed the other Slytherin out of the room and into the hall, his eyes on everything except for his self-unprofessed guide. Were the paintings... moving? How did that work? Were they actually controlled by aspects of the person which they portrayed, or were the subject and the image entirely different entities? How old was the building? Where did the other houses reside? He wasn't finished with his musing by the time they reached the bathroom, and he found his thoughts still being occupied by the castle as he chose a stall as far from the other boy as possible. -
He had opted for a stall close to the door, as he was considering just leaving Milo in the bathroom by rushing out as soon as he was finished. Just as he'd pulled the zipper down on his black dress pants, a partially see-through head stuck up out of the toilet, andhe jumped back. "Dammit, Mrytle! Get lost or I'll piss in your face," the boy hissed at the female ghost, who pouted and then flew up and elsewhere in the bathroom. This had taken up a good few seconds, so he finished his business quickly, still trying to beat Milo out. He wouldn't feel bad at all leaving the guy to figure things out by himself, and would probably be congratulated by all of the Slytherins beside the prefects.
-
(hahaha so earlier i realized that one of the best options for a prank that went too far would be outing him, so i'm going to make him cis again to eliminate the possibility entirely. not that i'm assuming you would, just... you know)
He managed to beat the other boy out, and stood washing his hands as the stall door opened. "This bathroom is haunted?" he asked, glancing behind him to find the ghost sitting on top of one of the stall doors, starting to complain about how the students were always picking on her. As he dried his hands, he turned to look at the girl. "Perhaps if you gave people their privacy while they were in here, they wouldn't be as rude to you, Miss Myrtle." He had no idea that students loathed the translucent figure.
He walked over to the door, waiting patiently for his housemate. He was tempted to ask him another question, but decided against it. -
(kay, that's fine)
He couldn't help but to sigh when he stepped out, and there was Milo, having beaten him to the sinks. "Obviously," he stated in response to his question, while he went towards a sink as well. He watched through the mirror as Mrytle crossed her arms, turned her nose up, and then disappeared through the wall behind her. Once he'd dried off his hands, he went towards the door, continuing to walk and wordlessly assuming that the other boy would follow him. -
(Aaaactually no. He's trans, as long as outing him isn't the prank. Sorry about my indecisiveness)
He followed, able to tell by the other's pace that he was hoping to avoid being seen with him. Was he really that bad, just because he was muggleborn? Or was it because he was new? Perhaps it was due to the fact that he was American. He tried not to think about it and instead focused on the paintings once again. As they turned the corner, he tore his eyes from the castle walls and allowed them to land on Jasper. "So wait, did she die here?" he asked, trying to hide the slight fear he gained from the realization. "What happened to her?" -
-
(Don't worry about it, it's cool. It won't be, promise.)
Jasper was leading the way up the stairs, past the hundreds of moving paintings, all of which were always talking to one another or watching the people who passed. He saw a chance to freak Milo out, so he glad told him Mrtyle's story. "She died in the bathroom. There's a beast under the castle, in a chamber, and it came up one day. And all she did was look it in the eyes, and right there, she dropped dead. They found her body hours later and she's been haunting the bathrooms ever since." TheBasilisk that killed her was gone, of course, long gone and dead. But Milo didn't have to know that. "So, if you ever see a giant snake around here, don't look it in the eye." -
(also is it cool with you if he's a parselmouth like?? i know that they're p uncommon so i understand if not but i think it'd fit him really well)
He gulped, then nodded. "Is that... common? Students dying here? I saw a few ghosts earlier who looked like they'd been students, too. Wait... they're from the Second Wizarding War, aren't they? It ended here." A few of the portraits nodded at him, reaffirming his assumptions. The boy had heard of the events during the war over and over, being in the group of children who were born roughly a year after it. Still, he found himself moving a little closer to Jasper as they headed for the dorms, a massive, murderous snake on his mind. -
(Sure, I think it'll fit him)
He popped out his lips, making a little sound. Looking back at Milo, he realized how much the boy really didn't know about Hogwarts. Nobody talked about the end of the war here, because a lot of the professors remembered it- and losing their friends. None of the students were old enough to have been students when it happened, but it just made everyone uncomfortable in general, because the ghosts were here. And none of them wanted to hear it either. "We don't really talk about that. But yeah." Finally, after going down a long stairwell, they reached the entrance to the Slytherin common room. Against the dungeon-like walls of this level, there were a few paintings, and he stood in front of one with a tall, thin man on it. When the man asked for the password, Jasper said, "Salt Lake." The painting swung to the side, and revealed a room, with boating decor, and green light washing over everything. "Here it is. The common room." -
(Also it gives him an actual reason to be in Slytherin)
"Oh," he replied quietly, suddenly realizing what he'd just brought up and why it was a bit taboo. He walked the rest of the way in silence, slightly uncomfortable with the fact that he common rooms were practically in the dungeons. Why couldn't Slytherin be in a tower, like he'd heard some of the other dorms were in? Or near the kitchens, like the Hufflepuffs were supposedly placed? Milo made a mental note of the password as the painting opened, then walked inside, glancing around the space. He smiled at Jasper, whose pale skin was now reflecting some of the soft green light. "Thanks. So our dorms are... which ones?" There were two staircases, but neither of them were marked. -
(Yeah I was thinking that too)
He stepped into he room, and the painting slid back into place behind them. No one in the room payed much attention to them, as they were all studying or talking with each other. Jasper pointed towards the door to the left. "Whatever you brought with you will be next to your bed already." As he said this, he decided that he wanted to get to bed anyway, so he started towards the doorway, sliding off his robe and holding it on his arm. Once he was in the dorms after going up the short stairs, there was a number of beds, and then more doorways to other identical rooms. "Keep this way," he said, assuming that Milo would be following him. This was the first year's room, so he went through three more doorways to get to the fourth year room. He had the second bed from the left of the door, and he sat his robe down on it. Along the walls, just like in the other rooms they'd went through, there were windows. But rather than looking outside of the castle, they were clearly underwater. Fish swam by, and even a squid slowly drifted past. -
(good job, milo. you're not AS weird as you were at first)
Milo followed, looking around as they walked through each doorway. He would've loved to spend some time in the common area, but he needed to find his dorm before that could happen. Besides, he started to feel his tiredness slowly creeping up onto him as they entered the room, the day's events and excitement really having worn him out. He stared out the windows in awe for a moment, a smile growing on his face as the squid swam along. Instantly, the boy knew that he'd never get sick of the view.
He turned to his bed, the one closest to the door's right, and started opening the box left on his bed. The sooner he could help his little friends get out of their cages, the better. He reached into his robes and removed the tiny lizard from earlier, setting it on the bedspread. The newcomer then retrieved multiple small boxes and cages, all of which had been fit inside of the larger, enchanted box. He had twelve in total, and each contained a small animal or two. The only normal pet the boy had was his owl, which, based on the empty cage on his trunk, had already been sent up to the aviary.
