He had finally got to her house and noticed that her mom wasn't home, which was different than most of times he visited since she was protective of her daughter. He already knew where they hid the key to get into the house, which was under and evil looking lawn gnome the had on the front porch. He unlocked the door and placed the key back under the gnome, before apologizing to it and finally walked in. The passed through the living room and traveled up the stairs to her room, not bothering to knock on her door like a decent gentleman, he opened it and grinned slightly at his best friend. "Hello Grey." He leaned against the doorframe just to wait until she yelled at him for not knocking and the whole rant of what if she was undressed or dressing herself when he walked in.
-
She skipped the rant today, it sounded like his birthday was going to cause enough trouble for him. She wasn't entirely sure why he was so opposed to turning sixteen, but comforted him as he complained, anyway. "Happy birthday! I got you this." She tossed the box to the other end of her bed, welcoming him to sit next to her to open it. "Mom made you a cake, too. Candle-free, of course." She wasn't sure why he hated candles, either, but went along with it. Joseph was just... weird, in some ways.
-
He chuckled and sat next to her, glad he didn't have to hear the rant from her, today. He then reached for the gift she tossed on the other side of the bed, not wanting to guess what his best friend decided to get him. He slowly started to rip the paper away. "Thanks, but I might not be able to stay long to be able to enjoy your mother's wonderful food, my mom will probably freak and demand me home. Also I'm glad you remember the candle thing." He stuck his tongue out at her as he finally opened the box. He blinked lightly, seeing an old Gameboy and the hand me down game he got from his cousin, a smile growing on his face since he literally didn't know how to thank her.
I'm surprised you're not going to kill me because of the other soap.) -
She set the laptop aside as he opened the gift, sitting up to watch. "You know, you're welcome back after the birthday ordeal, if you want. I don't know why your parents are so demanding, I mean..." Grey trailed off as he opened the gift. Seeing his smile, she said, "I'm glad you like it."
The smile brought her back to her thoughts from earlier. He wasn't all that attractive, but for some reason... she was interested. She could tell him. She should tell him. No, that'd ruin everything. She'd just have to hold it in for a little while longer. -
"They want me to be the perfect little boy remember?" He chuckled lightly, shaking his head. "I don't understand the whole ordeal either and I didn't think you'd remember all the way back to when I lost this." He glanced at her, noticing she was thinking about something. "Hey are you okay? You look like you're fighting to tell me something."
-
"Of course I remembered." She tensed a bit when he noticed, but quickly returned to her calm composure. There was no way she could actually tell him. Sure, she could imagine telling him, then fantasize that he shared her feelings, an ending of the happily-ever-after sort sure to follow. As she was about to say something, his phone rang, signaling that he was receiving a call from his parents. She held in a disappointed sigh.
-
He hated when she evaded his questions, but when he heard his phone ring he sighed lightly, picking it up and answering. "Yes? Mom I'm at a friends...yes I know what day it is. Ugh fine I'll be home stop guilt tripping me okay?" He hung up the phone and stood up." Sorry that I gotta go Grey, but I'll try and swing by later." He grabbed his gift and started off out of her house.
-
Grey sighed. "Okay. I'll see you later, Joseph. Good luck." She gave him a sad smile as he left, following him out to the staircase. It was disappointing to part of her that she would probably understand why he dreaded each birthday so much. Then again, he would probably never understand the other half of who she was. It seemed that neither would ever truly understand the other in the way that close friends were supposed to. What bothered her even more was that, watching him leave, he seemed virtually irresistible. She wasn't sure where her desires were coming from, but she was ashamed.
-
He walked down the sidewalk, kicking stones along the way as he headed home. He then glanced around in a slightly paranoid state, not being the happiest person in the world right now. He noticed people were staring at him, giving him longing looks, which made him walk faster until he got to the gate at his house, opening it quickly until he was through the front door. His parents were probably in the kitchen, which caused him to grumble as he entered, seeing a few gifts and some cards, but the cake was the thing he didn't want to see. Sixteen candles all in a different array on the cake and already lit.
-
She was about to return to her position from earlier, but... there was something alluring outside. Grey headed downstairs, following the irresistible urge. She knew that werewolves had these from time to time, but this was different. And that made it so much more interesting.
-
After opening his extremely boring gifts and getting probably about $130 dollars from his relatives that could make it, which was literally all of them, it was time to blow out the candles. He had a feeling of dread about what was going to happen when he did, but his parents were already yelling at him to act his age and blow out the candles already. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, exhaling slowly, causing the candles all to blow out slowly. He opened his eyes and felt more dread fill him, but it was over for now...

She followed it as if it'd taken her hand and pulled her along. Part of her didn't want to discover the source, but the rest of her knew that he had to find out. Fortunately, she was discreet as she hurried along, but somehow, others on the street seemed to know as well. She didn't even realize that it was leading her to her best friends' house.
-
Joseph left the room after the candles were blown out and stalked up to his room. He wanted this day to be over with so he could enjoy the rest of the summer, to hang out with Grey and do random things. He closed his door behind him and flopped onto his bed. He rolled over onto his back and started up at the ceiling. He felt like crap after the candles were blown out, like something bad was going to happen or...really something along thise lines.
-
When she arrived at his front door, she was a bit relieved. Of course! She just felt bad for her friend, and wanted to cheer him up a bit. That was all. She rang the doorbell politely and waited for one of his parents. There was still something, though... it was sort of like a scent? She could smell it, but it was more than just that. Grey could sense it. And she needed it.
