Ash bit the inside of her lip and remained deeply flushed throughout Arturo's little speech. Her mind was a blur and she couldn't stop herself before saying "you would?" She glanced down. "I'm not overly good at reading people.. I kind of keep to mhself.."
-
"Didn't I just say I would?" He said with a small chuckle, still sitting criss-cross on the large cot. He tapped his finger against the Converse logo of his shoe absentmindedly. "I didn't think it was too difficult. My hair, my looks. Come on, no one this ugly is straight.." He said with a sounded like a soft giggle. "I'm sorry for saying all of this because you're probably as straight as a ruler and I'm over here gushing about how gorgeous and holdable you are.." He said, mentally slapping himself for the last part.
-
Holdable omfg)
Ash straightened up and frowned disapprovingly at Arturo. "You're not ugly. You've got every pair of eyes in the whole damn school staring at you, how can you say you're ugly?" Ash confused herself on the second part. She was a girl, so yeah she was straight. But she was a guy now, in a sense, so she was gay. Instead of giving herself a headache, she just scratched the back of her neck, embarrassed. "Well...I don't like girls... At all.." -
"That's because I'm like, the only gay guy in school and gay guys are suppost to be hot, but here I am!" He ranted, running his fingers through his hair with a frown. Arturo noticed that Ash seemed a little confused when he said he was probably as straight as a ruler, but he assumed Ash was confused by the ruler part. "That's actually a huge surprise.." He said softly, gazing at the younger. He expected him to be straight and a total douche like all of the other new kids. Getting easily distracted like he always did, Arturo found himself staring at Ash's lips that looked oh so soft to him.
-
Ash squinted at him like he was crazy and bluntly stated. "You are hot." She raised an eyebrow and tilted her head. "It is? How? And how are you the only gay guy here..?" She would have continued, but saw him staring and decided to shut up before she ruined things.
-
Arturo shook his head quickly, not agreeing. "Because almost everyone here comes from a stupid Christian family with their stupid homophobic ways and even though some of them do like guys, and I know because they look at me the way Kim looks at Kanye, they would never admit it because of their stupid Christian ways!" He ranted, holding his head in his hands. In a much calmer voice he added, "I'm sorry if that offended you because you might be Christian but it's the truth."
-
Ash stared at him long and hard before replying. "I'm not a Christian." She leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms. "My family is Christian too, though, so I understand where you're coming from. And if said guys are not willing to stand up and admit they're gay, they're not worth your time, am I right?"
-
"But they are. They are worth my time because I want them to be worth my time and I want to be worth their time. I want them to love me, to hover over me like their life depends on it. I need the attention, I feed off of it. I need someone to love and I can't have that if they're not worth my time," he said, his lip quivering slightly as he stared at Ash.
-
That's when Ash lost interest. She brought one foot up to the chair, then wrapped her arms around it, frowning all the while at Arturo. "Quite the playboy then." She glanced at the clock, willing the hands to go faster.
-
Arturo shot up, walking over to Ash slowly and in long strides. "What do you mean quite the playboy?" He said in a low voice, bending down to look at Ash in the eyes. He glared at the younger, face flushed. "At least I don't look like a five year old girl."
-
As Ash was used to dealing with drunks, she kept her voice even and tone calm. "Sit back down, you're going to reopen the wound." Her face was totally blank and void of emotion, as she had been practicing for 17 years. "You refer to them as all, you said 'they.' Thus, more than one. You feed off people's attention? What would happen if you did find a boyfriend, and everyone else just ignored you? Would that be enough attention for you? Or would you crave more?" She glanced at the clock and decided she would rather be in the math class than here. Keeping up the blank face, she stated "Insults get you nowhere. I've already been insulted enough by the rest of the jerks here, nothing you say can affect me."
-
Arturo, being the sassy s--- he was, sat down right in front of Ash. He frowned, pondering over that. "If I did find a boyfriend? For one, that'll never happen. I don't think I could ever be tied down to one person. I'm kinda of a whore if you haven't noticed.." He said, looking off into the distance as he spoke. "And it depends on how much attention I got. I demand love to be shown to me every moment of the day, in public or in private," he admitted, pursing his lips. "I didn't mean that, I'm just.." He didn't continue.
-
Ash couldn't help smiling faintly. "What's the difference between a whore and a playboy?" She raised her eyebrows and sighed. "You did mean that. And I've upset you while you should have been resting." She stood up and walked over to the door. Nudging the trash can and admiring her good work at the discarding of the gloves, she smiles faintly at her current nursing skills and left the office.
-
Arturo didn't respond to that. He sighed and bit down on his lip as he watched him stand up. "Please, don't leave.." He said, walking after the younger boy. Normally, he let people leave if that's what made them happy, but for some reason he felt drawn to the younger. He watched the door close, standing in the middle of the room. He let out a choked sob, falling on his knees and cradling his face in his hands.
-
Ash took maybe two steps out the door when the bell rang and students poured out of classrooms. Being taken by surprise, she was jostled more than usual and struggled to keep her feet. She groaned as she realized she had to go to the other classroom, get her bag, go to her locker, trade books, and get to her next class. She sighed and accepted that she'd be late, because there was no way she was getting through the teasing crowd in time. Oh well. First day, teachers should be lenient.
