When the doors opened, Sylvya turned from her chat with a guard to the rivals entering the building. She nodded at all of them as introductions were made until her eyes finally rested on a person she hadn't seen before. Doing a quick head count, she could only guess who he was. Her eyebrows went up slightly. Yeah, she had heard that Shroud's son was coming, she just didn't think that the boy would be so....hot. She blinked once and unsuccessfully tried to glance away.
Martin Kramiery, on the other hand, was making the usual formalities with the Shroud leader, and didn't notice her glances. "I assume this is your son..?" he nodded towards Rhyder and looked at the leader expectantly. -
Judas Shroud nodded at Martin and placed his large hand on Rhyder's head. "Yes, he is. Rhyder, introduce yourself." Turning to look at his son, he nodded, prompting him to say something.
Rhyder glanced his eyes up toward the leader of the Kramiery group as he felt his father's hand on his head. "Hello sir, I'm Rhyder Shroud, its nice to finally meet you." He bowed slightly before taking a few steps back from the leaders to look around. A red flash caught his eye as he quickly looked back and forth, finally resting on a girl with red hair who looked to be the same age as him. She was unfamiliar to him and she stood out among the rest of the people in the room. He noticed her glancing at him, though he didn't mind much. They had never seen each other before, and he was blatantly staring at her, so her glancing at him was no problem to him. -
Martin smiled cordially, nodding his head at the boy. "It's nice to meet you too." He seems nice enough.. He redirected his attention back at Judas. "I expect that the preparations have been made and that conditions are ready to be met?" He smiled at the man, hoping he would get the hint. He wasn't too keen on telling his daughter just yet what they were planning.
Sylvya glanced away when their gazes met. She hadn't meant to be staring at him and was embarrassed to find out that she was. She bit the inside of her lip and watched her father and Judas instead, occasionally sneaking a glance back at Rhyder. -
Judas chuckled and nodded, taking the hint. "Yes, everything is in order. All we have to do is announce the conditions to everyone." Though the man knew that his son had stepped away, he also did not want to give away too much information until the right time had come. Looking around, he noted that everyone was present. Turning back to Martin, he gestured towards the meeting room doors. "Shall we enter?"
Rhyder smiled when he saw the girl turn away when he noticed her. Maybe I shouldn't have stared at her like that... He saw her still sneaking glances at him though, so he waved, trying to be friendly. -
Martin nodded at his response and glanced towards the indicated room. "Yes..lets." He opened the door and gestured for the man to enter first. Good rule of thumb for relationships: be nice.
Sylvya kept her mouth shut, pressing her tongue between her teeth in an attempt to not grin. She did, however, smile a little, giving a small wave back when the men had their backs turned. -
Smiling and nodding, Judas entered the meeting room and held the door open from inside, returning the favor to Martin before signalling for everyone else to follow in after them.
Rhyder smiled at her reaction. Based on how she hid the wave from the Kramiery group head, he figured she must be the leader's daughter. If this peace talk works out, maybe I can become friends with her... someone new for both of us, and friendship is a nice way to keep peace going. Noticing that the leaders had left, he gestured to her with a tilt of his head, trying to signal that they should follow after their fathers. -
Martin nodded his thanks and walked through the door, signaling for Sylvya to follow him.
Sylvya nodded at Rhyder once and turned to walk through the door. She dipped her head and mumbled a bashful "thank you" to Judas for opening the door. Her father had made his way over to his chair, but was waiting until everyone was assembled to sit down. She did the same, staring up at him, smiling at him hopefully. So far so good, it seems..
The assistant that hadn't gone in with Martin knew Sylvya could defend herself for ten seconds, and indicated that Rhyder should enter first. -
Rhyder nodded at the assistant and walked through the door, heading toward his seat next to his father's and sat down, waiting for the meeting to begin. Well, no one has fought so far... that's a good sign.
Judas made one final headcount before closing the door and heading to his seat at the head of the table next to his son and Martin. Nodding to the other leader, he sat down. "Alright, seems like everyone is here. Shall we begin?" -
Martin raised an eyebrow at the fact that the boy sat down so soon, but made no mention of it. Don't start arguments over petty problems. He nodded at Judas and began. "Well, I suppose to summarize: we've all been fighting for quite some time and not many remember the original cause. In essence, our fighting is futile and senseless. We've all decided that it needs to stop at the earliest possible time to avoid more bloodshed. We've been debating different ways of doing this and haven't before come to a definite solution guaranteed to work." He glanced at Sylvya to confirm this.
Sylvya had sat down and started thinking. As a tactical field soldier, she had a memory capacity that surpassed usual people, which, during these meetings, she used to remember most of what had been said in previous sessions. Her father often referenced her when making decisions and drawing conclusions. Staring blankly into space (and, accidentally at Rhyder's hands) to assist her memory, she slowly nodded.
After her nod, Martin looked at Judas and indicated for him to continue. -
Judas acknowledged the nod and continued where Martin left off. "There has been no definite solution thus far, that is true. We have come up with an idea that we think will work to stop the bloodshed though. That solution is why everyone has been gathered here today, including our heirs, Sylvya and Rhyder." He gestured to the two teenagers as he said their names.
Rhyder nodded in response to his father's words. It seems like he's stalling... it the agreement they came to that bad? He glanced over at Sylvya, wondering if she thought the same thing.
Judas look a deep breath before continuing. "To stop the fighting and bloodshed, the solution that Martin and I have come up with is..." Taking a moment to prepare himself for what he was about to say, he closed his eyes and finished his sentence. "The two heirs, Rhyder and Sylvya, are now engaged to be married."
Rhyder's foot got caught as he tried to stand up in protest, causing he and his chair to fall backwards. -
Sylvya had momentarily frowned a little and met Rhyder's glance. She shrugged a little and brushed it off until Judas' next comment.
She stared at Judas. Hard. Then she glared at her father for a full minute and scoffed. She shook her head and pushed back away from the table, ignoring her fiance's condition. "Excuse me? Would you care to run that by me-us- again?" She slowly stood up, glaring at everyone at the table. "We are what??"
Martin was thinking of settling her down, but figured "hell hath no fury.." and kept to himself. She was only mad, which seemed understandable. -
Judas took a deep breath. "I'll say it again. Sylvya and Rhyder are now engaged. You two are going to get married." Turning to look down at his son, he frowned. "Get up. Don't be so clumsy."
The moment on the ground had given Rhyder some time to think, but it didn't matter. He saw no point in keeping calm though. Getting up, he glared at the two leaders. "You may be our fathers, but that doesn't give you the right to dictate our lives like that! What about what we want or think? We've never even met, and now you expect us to get married?!" He slammed his fist down on the table for emphasis. "How exactly will two teenagers getting married stop the fighting? Nothing you've come up with so far had worked, why the hell do you think this will?!" -
Martin glared evenly at the boy from his seat. "Watch how you speak, boy. We've all agreed this is the best way, so talk respectfully, or hold your tongue."
Sylvya shook her head and, after glaring at Rhyder for his final comment, turned to her father. "No, he's right. An ass about wording, but he's right. This isn't the sixteenth century, you can't force other people to get married. Especially for a problem you should be resolving yourselves! How is this even going to help?!" She turned to Judas. "What exactly do you think is gonna happen? A Hunger Games? Make the two people fall in love so everyone will support them and be pacified?!?" Her voice rose with each word until she was yelling, slowly getting more angry about it all.
Martin frowned at seeing her reaction, knowing how she was when she was mad. -
Rhyder slammed his fist on the table once more. "You've all agreed, huh? Did you ever stop to consider the two most important people to your plan and how we would feel? We're both refusing, what will you do now? You can't go through this plan of yours without us doing what you say. And Sylvya is right, this isn't some fictional story where she and I will suddenly fall in love." Sighing, Rhyder looked to his father. "Come on, you two are our fathers. You should have known this plan of yours wouldn't work." Glancing at Sylvya and the rest of the people at the table, he could feel the tension rising rapidly as people began to murmur about the peace talks failing once again. This isn't good... at this rate fighting may start out in this very room...
Judas could feel the tension too and looked to Martin, hoping he could do something about Sylvya's yelling. -
Sylvya nodded with everything Rhyder was saying, throwing in low "uh huh"s, "thank you"s and "duh" gestures to her father every now and then. She felt the tension rise and glanced around. There were four Kramierys and four Shrouds. She had five knives. Perfect... One for each of them and one for father.. She crossed her arms to look casual, but also get her hands closer to her knives.
Martin noticed Judas' look and quickly chimed in. "Yes yes, we did think of you.. We.. We presented the idea to you now and let you get used to each other, instead of shoving you both into a church and saying good luck. You have until the end of this month. Do you want the warring to end or not? This is the only way we could figure. Can you think of any other way?" He looked at Judas for support.
Sylvya stared at her father, then glanced at Rhyder.
