Those last words cut through Griffin's ears like a knife, and he shook his head. He couldn't stay. His body desired nothing but to leave. He stood, watching her for a moment. The guilt he had been feeling was sitting in the pit of his stomach, which was another reason he felt he had to flee. He knew that she had tried, but he didn't feel any better. So, his departing words rang out into the coffee shop, "Thank you, but I have to go." He turned on his heel, starting towards the door in high hopes of leaving before she was given a chance to do anything else.

Real fear struck deep in Shay's heart. She had failed. She couldn't save the boy, but if he were to die Shay would never be able to forgive herself. Only few times has she ever felt fear. One of them was when her brother said he would kill himself. Then the time that he went through with it. "Griffin, please, wait!" Shay called, moving quicker than she ever had before and grabbing onto his arm; this time she didn't plan to let go. "They say in the bible that suicide is a horrible sin and that you'd be sent to Hell. If you kill yourself now I fear that you'll only be suffering on the other side too," she spoke quickly.
At that point, Shay really hoped that Griffin was Christian, and that those words didn't sound too mean or harsh. "Please, just wait. This pain in our lives are going to end for eternity if we just wait it out. Life is a gift, it's not a choice. Don't just throw your give away Griffin, please I'm begging you don't do this." -
Griffin turned to her with both a perplexed and slightly upset expression. The religious words didn't faze him too much, as he was a devout atheist, and so things like Heaven and Hell were a laughable concept. He stopped believing in those things too long ago, because if there was a God, he wouldn't f--- somebody's life up so much, would he? He bit back all of those words that he had previously been so willing to say, and focused more on the statement she had given him a few minutes back.
His eyes wandered to the hand gripping his arm, and he asked, "You'd really come here everyday just to talk to me about things? Even with college work and all of that other stuff I'm sure you've got going on?" It was almost like a dream, having someone so willing to go the extra mile just to help him. He wanted to smile and cry and do a billion other things all at once, but he only stood with a blank expression, fixated on his arm. -
Oh yeah, watched that video too
Shay didn't know what to say to Griffin's silence. Was he still going to kill himself anyways? Or was he actually going to take her words into consideration? When he finally spoke she felt much better, but her hands were shaking. "If I wasn't willing to do it, I never would have said it," she stated, her eyes sparkling with new tears and sincere worry. "I'll help you work through it. What kind of person would I be if I were to just let you go off and kill yourself Griffin? I would feel horrible... I would never be able to forgive myself."
Then she waited. She waited for him to answer her, and she hoped to God that he would just agree with her terms. Then she made somewhat of a risky move; "A-And if you don't, then I'm calling the cops, o-or something to get you help... if you don't listen to me." -
How was it?
Griffin pulled in a deep, refreshing breath just to be sure that he would be calm enough to answer her. The idea of police and whatnot terrified him, because it wouldn't be the first time he'd had them called. He cleared his throat, making the defensive statement, "Police don't do anything to help. Trust me. Either way, I'll go home and come back as often as necessary, okay?" He needed a way to reassure her that he was telling the truth, and so, "I promise."
It was then that he slowly started to wiggle his arm from her hand, feeling like that had gone on for a little too long. He wanted his body parts to himself, and that's really all he was asking with this gesture. -
Sad, but like you said, gives me hope that this f---ed up world isn't all too bad.
Though Shay was relived by his words, she didn't want to let go of him. She wanted to hold onto him and make sure that he wouldn't break his promise, but she knew that she should probably let go of him. Slowly, Shay let her hand drop away from Griffin's and she nodded, the world around her suddenly went silent. "Alright," she stated, her voice cracked a little. "Can I at least walk you home? To make sure you get there safe? And just to let you know, some police do try and help..."
Shay sighed and she ran her fingers through her hair. All the energy seemed to be drained out of her at that moment from begging for someone else life. She also began to scratch at her neck a little; it felt as if there were millions of ants on her making her skin tingly. -
It really does. :')
That question sent a huge wave of anxiety through Griffin's body. In a shaky voice, he explained to her, "I don't even know my way home from here. I took so many random turns that I could be anywhere right now." He then thought about if his was even worried, or if he'd even noticed that Griffin was gone. This only made the teen slightly angry, because he probably didn't. His father was always so wrapped up in other activities that Griffin was probably pretty samn low on his list of priorities. "I know my address, and that's really all I can offer." -
yee ^-'^
As much as Shay hated to admit it, she hardly knew her way around the huge city. She only knew her way to the mall, around the university, to the coffee shop, and the docks, and that's about it. "I'm going to come clean with you... I have no idea how to get around this city so... Would you like to stay with me? My roommate is in the hospital having a baby, so there will be no one else there," Shay offers instead, hoping the boy would agree to come with her. -
:DD
"No!" he first exclaimed, but not because he was trying to be rude or harsh, but because he hadn't slept anywhere but home in his entire life. He was too afraid to do things like that. "I mean, no. I'm sorry, my dad is probably worried sick. Look, I can just flag down a taxi, okay? I'll be fine. I swear. I will come here, tomorrow, okay? I'll find my way." He had full intentions of going home, but he wasn't very sure what he'd do when he'd get there. He found fiddle around, maybe get ahead in his classes. Or...yeah, ahead in his classes. -
HE HAS TWO MOUTHS WTF
"Alright, but I'm still coming with you, no matter how annoying I seem, I'm making sure that you get home safe," Shay said. The determination in her eyes screamed 'just agree because there's no damned way you're getting out of this, even if it means I have to stalk you like a creep.' She lifted up an eyebrow just to add some effect to her look. She suddenly felt steady, and strong. Her hands weren't shaking and she looked at Griffin, expecting an answer from him. -
da i know :DD
Griffin just stared at her with pretty innocent eyes befores answering, "Okay." He stepped towards the road so that he would be capable of flagging down a taxi. He watched as a few drove right past him, which made him exasperated. He knew that the girl wasn't going to leave him until he was home and safe, so he figured that he should get the experience over woth until the next day. A bright yellow taxi with black checkered sides pulled to a stop on the side of the road. Griffin turned to Shay, then, gesturing for her to come to the taxi. -
So odd.
Shay nodded and got into the taxi, and then she waited for Griffin to get in after her. While she waited she shifted through her bag to find her wallet and she pulled out two twenties. She didn't know how long it would take to get to wherever Griffin lived. "What's your address?" Shay questioned while putting her wallet back in her bag and looking up at Griffin. She cleared the frog from her throat. -
Thank you o:
Griffin slid into the taxi, closing the door. He then ran off his address, "92 West Karachi Lane." He then made sure to fasten his seatbelt, thanking her for her kindness. He didn't expect her to pay, and he wasn't sure how to tell her not to, and so he didn't. His social skills obviously weren't very developed, so that was why he mainly kept to himself. He never would have been able to tell the driver the address by himself. -
xD
Shay muttered a quick 'you're welcome,' to Griffin and then she repeated the address to the taxi driver. The driver then started to head towards Griffin's house. As they drove, Shay looked out the window. She never got to ride in cars very often anymore since she just walked everywhere. She loved to watch the people on the sidewalks, and the advertisement the city showed, and just the pretty buildings and lights and everything. She also stayed silent because she was sure that Griffin probably didn't want to talk with her at that moment. -
I assume this is New York City, yes?
Griffin, too, was very focused on the extensive amount of beauty that the city could be. When you didn't take the time to examine the area, it was rather pleasing to watch. He could only do this for so long, however, until he grew bored and looked to his shoes, which were a pair of beat-up Converse that he had owned for who knows how long. He felt his eyes burning somewhat, as he was tired and upset and he needed sleep but he would not be able to get it until he was home to take his medication. This was the task that he should have done that would have prevented the entire situation from happening.
