"You- you let go of him!" Antonio yelled, grabbing the man by the collar with one hand and swinging a punch with the other at his face. He knew Lovino was lying to him, and God forbid anything happen to him- Antonio wouldn't have it.

The man yelped in surprise and fell back. One of the others growled animalistic ally and lunged at Antonio. "No!" Lovino cried out, his eyes wide. The man holding him let go of his wrists, but before Lovino could get anywhere, he shoved him to the ground. The Italian barely felt the pain, his focus was on Antonio, scrambling to his feet unsteadily and desperately trying to pull the men away from him.

"You f---ing b------s!" Antonio screamed, apendages flying in defense. He swung his legs, waved his arms, tried to hit any of them however he could.

The men stumbled back. Lovino saw one of them fall, his eyes fluttering shut, unconscious. The Spaniard was strong. Two of the others backed out of the ally, muttering that it wasn't worth a fight. The last man laughed darkly and grabbed Lovino's arm again and shoved him. He fell for the second time, letting out a small pained noise as the man raised his foot to kick him.

Antonio spun around, just as the last man was raising his foot to hurt Lovino. He rushed forward, pushing the man against the wall of one of the buildings, holding him there with both hands. "Go bother someone else or you're really going to get it," he growled.

The man glared at Antonio, but didn't argue. "You're little friend will be properly punished someday." He snarled. "I wouldn't drink so much next time." He added. He was barely able to push past the Spaniard's grip and half-run out of the ally. Lovino looked up from his place on the ground, dirt and a bit of blood and tears staining his face. "A-Antonio..." He couldn't believe what had just happened, they could've died, oh god, Antonio almost died...

Antonio stared at the wall for a moment, the sick bile filling him again. Finally, he put his hands on the wall and threw up, spitting. His head cleared a little from this. He sat down on the ground, tears welling in his eyes. Despair was filling him, feeling that this had all been his fault, because he hadn't been careful enough and he'd gotten too drunk. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he said to his Italian, wiping his eyes.

Lovino stood shakily and went to Antonio, kneeling beside him. He took his hand and held it tightly. "Don't apologize. We both knew this would be dangerous, it's not your fault." He said softly. "Are you hurt?"

"No, I'm okay.." He looked up at Lovino, frowning. "You're bleeding," he breathed sorrily. "It's my fault. I'm drunk."

The Italian frowned and wiped the blood from his face. "It's okay, Antonio. They did that, not you. Let's go home, okay?" He said, half-begging. He just wanted to get out of here.

Antonio thought about it, then nodded. "Yah. Let's go home," he decided, standing up. He offered a hand down to Lovino.

Lovino took his hand and stood up again. He was still a little dizzy, but the effects of the alcohol were beginning to wear off. He quickly went back to Wendy and mounted the horse with a small sigh. His arms were scraped from falling, and the cut of his cheek was still bleeding, but he was mostly just glad that Antonio was okay.

Antonio climbed onto the horse behind Lovino, the alcohol not wearing off quite as quickly for him. He hugged the Italian's back, despite the episode that had just occured in the alleyway, crying into his shoulder. "I'm sorry you got hurt. I'll protect you from now on, I promise."

Lovino blinked back tears of his own as he rode, the tents coming into view. "It's okay, I'm okay..." He murmured repeatedly, trying to calm down the Spaniard.

Antonio felt himself drifting off on Lovino's shoulder. What he'd said earlier at the pub- 'tengo sueno'- was indeed true, he was tired. By the time they were nearin the circus tents again, he was entirely lulled to sleep by the rythmic motion of the horse.
