Kay, here we gooo))
Elephants, despite popular belief, were actually quite gentle creatures. And vastly intelligent, big masses of grey that Antonio loved dearly, like family. He, as their trainer, took care of all of their needs, along with teaching them commands and keeping them calm while they were in the travel wagons. Really, the eighteen-year-old couldn't have asked for a better job.
Antonio traveled in a circus, along with many other people and animals, all around the land. The group provided smiles and excitement for people that had never before seen such foreign creatures, who believed that every time Antonio stepped towards the elephants he was in danger. The Spaniard loved the thrill of having so many people watching him interact with his animals, though he himself felt that he was in no danger. His favorite part of the job, though, was the ringleader. An Italian, whom he enjoyed trying to entertain to no avail.
One night, before a show in France, Antonio was watching the work hands set up the tent while he was still in the elephant wagon with one of his two elephants. This one was Maira, a crowd favorite, and he was spreading out hay on the floor of her wagon while the lights of the tent shone. -
Lovino gave a little sigh, reluctant to leave his own compartment of the series of wagons. Many people thought that the seventeen year old was much too young to be responsible for so much of what went on in the circus, and part of Lovino couldn't help but agree with them. If his stupid parents hadn't gone and dissapeared, the whole job wouldn't have been shoved into him. But he supposed it couldn't be helped. With another sigh, he stepped out of the wagon.
Lovino tried to be optimistic about things, but it didn't come naturally to him at all. However, he did enjoy the shows. He enjoyed seeing how both children and adult would be captivated by the diverse and colorful acts, and most of all he loved the animals. The horses, the lions, and especially the elephants. Such big powerful creatures, yet they seemed gentle too. Circus business had kept him busy, so Lovino had never really gotten up close and personal with the creatures, but he made a mental note to visit them when he got the time. -
Antonio's wagon was positioned four behind the ringmaster's, in front of the clowns. He heard a door open and even though he was so far behind, he knew it must be Lovino because everyone else had already gone to the tent. The Spaniard, suddenly excited, hurried to the side of the wagon. It was made up only of iron bars, like the prison, so he waved his arm out between two of the bars to get Lovino's attention, face squished while he tried to squeeze past the bars to see. "Lovino! Lovino, would you like to see something?" He called. Lately, Antonio had been trying put new tricks with the elephants, and because he had no other trainers to help him, it was all experiment, so the best way to test how interesting they were was by showing others. And who better than Lovino? "You'll like it, it's for the show."
-
Lovino paused when he heard his name being called, turning around to see Antonio, the elephant trainer. Antonio was one of the crowd's- and Lovino's- favorite acts. He was a fantastic performer, but the young ringmaster (who rarely gave out compliments) kept this to himself. He took a few steps toward the wagon, trying to glare, although he was curious. "The show's starting soon," He said, crossing his arms. Then, realizing this was an opportunity to finally see the elephants more closely, he added, "Make it quick."
-
Antonio grinned, ecstatic to finally have Lovino's personal audience. He wiggled back out of the bars, and went to the corner of the wall, slipping open the lock that held the wagon closed. From there, he swung open the one wall of bars, Maira getting the hint to stand up.
The Spaniard stepped out of the wagon, the elephant following behind him. "I promise it'll be quick," he said, turning so that he was facing the elephant, back to Lovino. "Pick up, Maira!" He urged, spreading his arms out while his legs he kept tight together. The animal's head bowed, her trunk stretching out, until the elephant had it wrapped around Antonio's feet. "Pick up," Antonio stated again, so that all of a sudden his feet were swept out from under him and Maira lifted him into the air, hanging the Spaniard upside down about ten feet in the air.
"Ta-da!" He mused, grinning despite the headache he was slowly getting. -
Lovino smiled for a brief moment, before he realized he was and quickly changed his expression into a more neutral one. "...Isn't that uncomfortable?" He asked finally, tilting his head to glance questioningly at the dangling Spainiard. His gaze shifted between Antonio and the elephant, wondering what it was like to be so close. He was tempted to ask if he could come closer, but his dignity would never allow it. Besides, the show was starting soon. In fact, a quick glance at the other wagons told him that he and Antonio were probably two of the last people to enter the tent.
-
Antonio thought he saw Lovino smile for a moment, and even though he wasn't sure of it, he still felt a little success. "Yes, but isn't it an interesting trick?" He asked, leaning up to pat the elephant's trunk. Maira slowly lower the Spaniard, until he was sitting on the ground and she could let go. "I'm going to teach it to Gorro later, too," he told Lovino while he stood up. "Right now only Maira can do it." The elephant's trunk was searching around, now, for something to grab, so it went to Antonio's hair and started grasping it and pulling it. The trainer just ignored it. "But we've got to get to the show, right?"
-
"..It is interesting." Lovino offered, sounding indifferent. "But don't go hurting yourself over a new trick. You've got plenty of others." He chided, stifling another grin as he watched Maira's trunk tug at Antonio's hair. "You're right, though, we should go." He gave a little nod to the trainer and turned on his heel, walking quickly towards the tent.
-
Antonio turned to the elephant, reaching up to wave her trunk away. "I'll be there in a minute," he said to Lovino, and walked back towards the wagons to get Gorro. His wagon was in the very back, behind the trapeze artists, because he was the biggest animal in the circus. When he reached the wagon, he opened the bar wall just like he'd done with Maira, and the elephant stepped out. While it seemed impossible, he was even bigger than Maira, standing at a startling 12 feet tall. He was the largest tamed elephant in any circus, at least that Antonio knew about. Yet, while Antonio walked to the tent, they followed behind like obedient little puppies to their mother.
The trio entered through the back opening of the tent, saved for the preformers. There was a tunnel here, that was closed off from the sight of the audience by a large curtain. All of the preformers stayed here before the show, except for the lions, elephants and horses. Antonio continued out of the tunnel into the rings, leading the two animals to their ring. Maira and Gorro both stayed in the circle, waving their trunks around impatiently. -
Lovino's footsteps were silent, drowned out by all the noise of the tent, cheering people and shuffling footsteps and the shouts of ticket salesmen. He sighed yet again and entered the tent, plastering on a fake smile. Honestly, Lovino had never been much of a performer, the whole thing had always seemed a little too extravagant for his tastes. But the circus was the only thing he'd ever known.
His parents had owned it, and his father had been the ringmaster until he and Lovino's mother had dissapeared. Ran off, is what some of the performers told him, as if that was some consolation. They'd vanished years ago, and had taken Lovino's brother with them, a fact that had caused him nonstop torment. Why had they left him behind? But he couldn't focus on that now. He had a job to do.
The crowd fell silent as the lights dimmed and Lovino strode out into view. He quickly stepped up onto the stage, and with as much flourish as he could manage, he introduced the circus itself and the first act. Wild applause sounded as he quickly stepped out of the crowd's area of vision. That was about all that was expected of him in the shows, and now he could lean back and relax, watching the acts and secretly anticipating Antonio's performance. -
(I kinda forgot to think of this but
What time period is this even in xD)
Antonio's final job was to get the elephants ready to prance around. While the lights were dimmed and the first act- the trapeze girls- was introduced, Antonio had Maira and Gorro kneel down on their front knees. This way, the Spaniard could slide on two fake-gem-encrusted head dresses, that would glint in the lights. By the time they were both on, the trapeze girls had finished their act, and the clowns were going on.
For a few more acts, Antonio and the elephants only had to wait for their turn to go. It was the tightrope walkers after the clowns, followed by ballerinas on horses. As the horses were being trotted out of the tent, Antonio made the command for Gorra to kneel. It was just moments until their act, so he laid down on Gorro's outstretched trunk, while the elephant stood back up. The trainer laid still, besides crossing his legs in a casual manor, despite being 13 feet in the air. -
oh um uh I really have no idea XD but I'm cool with whatever you want)
Lovino watched the ballerinas as they dismounted the trained stallions, the white horses tossing their heads as they trotted away from the adoring audience. The lights dimmed for a moment before flashing on again and Lovino felt a small spark of excitement, awaiting Antonio to come out with the elephants.
He'd honestly never given it much thought, but Antonio was probably his only friend. He got along alright with a few of the other performers, but Antonio was the only one who seemed to enjoy being around Lovino. Maybe that's why Lovino enjoyed being around Antonio so much too. Not that he'd ever admit it. -
(Maybe liiike 1880's? That's when the whole circus craze was going around Europe.)
When the lights came on, Antonio patted the side of Gorro's thick trunk, and the elephant was marching forward with Maira right on his heels. The crowd was cheering, but mostly gasping at the sight of animals so large. After all, there were no elephants of this size in zoos. The zoos only had smaller ones, maybe six or seven feet tall at most. Maira, even though she was the smaller of the two elephants (and obviously so), she still soared over zoo elephants by standing at ten feet tall. Gorro was not only 13 feet tall, but he was a male African elephant. He had tusks that stretched out a good two feet until they were covered by a silver nub, to keep them from being too dangerous.
Despite the crowd's appalled reaction to the animals, they seemed even more suprised when they only notice the Spaniard when he sat up and waved to them while Gorro trotted around the ring. The waving only lasted a moment before Antonio whistled, and as he quickly moved to stand up, hardly struggling to do so while Gorro's trunk twisted into the shape of an 'S'. Antonio was balancing on top of it, now 17 feet in the air, grinning and waving to the ringmaster. The crowd didn't care for who he was waving to, only cheered at the accomplishment of having stood. -
sounds good to me~)
Lovino couldn't help but feel slightly annoyed as he noticed a group of girls giggling and pointing to Antonio, to wearing over the crowd. He couldn't place the reason for the feeling though. His gaze drifted to the elephants. Maira, Lovino was pretty sure that was what Antonio had called her, was the smaller of the two, but even she was impressing the crowd. They were actually quite graceful, no thundering stomps and trumpeting horns, but rather they both looked calm, despite the excited buzz of the show that surrounded them. He looked back at Antonio and his eyes widened as he realized the Spainiard was waving, looking past the cheering onlookers straight at him. He felt his cheeks grow warm, but blamed the tempurature of the tent, raising an eyebrow in attempt to look unimpressed, rather than wondering how the hell he could balance seventeen feet in the air without shaking and oh god, if he fell...Lovino groaned softly, mentally scolding himself. He'd seen Antonio do this a hundred times before. This was nothing to worry about.
