Edward smiled at the Maurice's sleeping form, holding him close. He didn't fall asleep as quickly as Maurice did, so he simply stayed there for a little while, stroking his hair and holding him in his arms.

Cade knocked on the door about three times, waiting patiently outside the room. Maurice didn't wake, but rather shifted around in his lover's arms, groaning softly.

Edward jumped a bit, hearing the knock. He carefully slid out of bed, trying not to disturb Maurice, and swiftly out his clothes back on before opening the door. He didn't recognize the man standing there, but he had the same hair color as Maurice, so he assumed it was the brother he had mentioned earlier.

Cade was taken a bit off-gaurd at seeing a nan other than David in the same room as Maurice. He shook it off, though, and held his hand out to him. "I'm Cade. Maurice's older brother. He sent for me..?"

Edward half-smiled and reached out to shake his hand. "I'm Edward. Maurice is inside, although he's asleep...Would you like me to wake him up?" He asked, moving aside so that Cade could enter the room.

Cade shook his head, smiling lightly. "No. No need to do that. My baby brother needs his beauty sleep," He chuckled at his joke, scanning Edward up and down. After a moment, he let out a low whistle. "And he left David for you?"

Edward faltered slightly, unsure of how to answer it. He decided to stick with what he'd told Annie. "I was a traveler. I met Maurice on the island he was living. David...was killed. By pirates. That's where I found Maurice, it was right after they'd left.." It was close enough to the truth. He didn't want Cade to hate him as soon as they met.

"..Oh." Cade regretted his joke now, and nervously ran a hand through his hair, shifting his weight around a bit. "Well. Thank you for taking care of him."

Edward smiled and nodded. "Of course." He glanced down at Maurice's unconscious form. "...He really loved David, didn't he?"

"Yeah. He did." The boy smiled softly, and stepped back. "Why don't you come over for dinner in about two hours?"

Edward nodded and smiled again. "Alright, thank you. I'll make sure he's awake by then." He said with another nod.

Cade nodded, and turned on his heel, leaving. Maurice, who had been awake for a while spoke up. "We should bathe."

Edward jumped a bit, turning to see Maurice awake. He nodded. "You can go ahead and wash first." He offered . "Your brother seems like a good man." He added as an afterthought.

Maurice sat up on his elbows, sighing softly. "He is." With that, he got out of bed, and headed for the stove, so that he could start a fire to heat some water.

Edward nodded. Cade's fianc had seemed nice enough too, although Edward just wasn't sure he could trust her...He shook his head. He was living among regular people now. He had to stop questioning everyone he came into contact with.
