It didn't take them long to get back to the cabin. When they did, Clancy and Cassandra's body were gone.

"Do you think he buried her?" she asked, walking into the cabin.

"Not yet, no. There's a certain... ceremony, that's tradition for this sort of thing. We build a pyre and the one who received the essence is the first to light it. That's why I needed to find you this morning." He walked up the steps and waited for her, the door open.

"Oh, alright. I can do that." she said, stepping into the house.

"And then you sit vigil until it stops burning. Which is usually most of the night."

"I could do that too, I don't really sleep much anyways."

"I'll stay up with you, if you'd like. It's a silent vigil, though." He headed for the stairs.

"Maybe, depends how lonely I get." she followed him up, taking in the decor of the house.

He nodded. "You'll get lonely." Down the hall, there was a bedroom that appeared to be vacant. He peeked inside, looked her over, then looked back at the room. "This should work."

She stepped into the room. It was small, with a bed pushed to the corner, a few dressers, and a closet. The walls were painted a light blue. Everly nodded and set her suitcase down.

"I'll grab some sheets for you. Hold on." He left the room and came back a few minutes later with a stack of bedding.

"Thanks." she took them and hopped on to the bed, spreading them out. "Hey, can we try something?" she asked, turning to him. "I want to see just how lonely a werewolf could get. Could you lock me in here for a bit, or something?"

He knitted his eyebrows together, a bit concerned. "Uh, no. Besides, you're a little too new to the entire thing for you to get that lonely. If you really want to know, you can lock me in my room, I guess."

"No, it's fine. I'll find out one day." she said, flattening out the blanket on top of her new bed.

"Okay. Can I help you unpack or anything?" He lifted the suitcase up onto the desk in the room.
