Maria frowned. "Why are so many people after Master Wolfe?" She asked curiously, trying not to stumble over the name a second time. "I thought all the monsters- I m-mean...non-humans...got along?" She never would've guessed that a demon would try to kill him. Humans? Sure, but demons had no grudge against the werewolves, right?
-
She looked at her. "Haven't you been paying attention to the news? The vampires are in a power struggle with the other Night Clans. Master Wolfe is the last of the most powerful Night Clan families next to the vampire clan leader Clark. He is the prime target for most of the Night Clans. Others want him to lead. " she shrugged. "Master Wolfe just wants to live his life the way he wants."
-
Maria listened intently, feeling a bit unintelligent. She didn't keep up with the news, it was hard to do when you were on the run. Brenda probably knew plenty more about all the Night Clans, where as Maria was still marveling over their master's ironic surname. She continued to wipe at the cabinets. "Oh. I never knew."
-
She patted Maria's head and smiled. "It's okay. Not alot of people keep up with the news anymore...but I've always been like that. A book worm and a information seeker." She closed her cabinet door she was working on and moved to another cabinet.
-
"That's not a bad thing. You'll always know more than everyone else." She finished up her own cabinet and trailed after Brenda, starting to clean the one on her left. "How long have you been here?"
-
Brenda thought for a moment. "Three...no four years now. Master Wolfe has been sending money to keep my mother's medical bills in check." She looked at Maria with a sad look. "Knowing so much can get you killed."
-
"I'm sorry." Maria apologized again. She'd been separated from her own mother and brother for some time now, but every so often she would hear a piece of news from her brother or something, just to let her know he was still alive. "Four years though..." Maria sighed, brushing a stray curl behind her ear.
-
"Four years of Master Wolfe protecting me, giving me food, giving me clothes, and making sure I'm healthy." She smiled. "I think when he saw you he saw an...odd attraction." She hummed and went back to cleaning.
-
Maria's face flushed. "A-Attraction?!" She squeaked, turning her heated face away, suddenly very focused on cleaning her cabinet. "That's not what I would call handcuffing someone to a chair..."
-
Brenda laughed loudly and clutched her stomach. Tears started welling in her eyes and she snorted while laughing. "Y-your face!! It w-went so r-red!" She soon calmed down and chuckled under her breath. "Come on, if you look at him, he would be a human girl's dream. But the werewolf thing is a buzz kill. As I said earlier, it's a facade to other people, unless you intimidated him."
-
Her laughter only made Maria blush harder, and she desperately tried to cover it up. "Wait...intimidated him?" Maria had a feeling that Master Wolfe was not easily intimidated. And she was positivley sure there was absolutely no 'attraction' involved whatsoever in the strange relationship between them.
-
Brenda finished her cabinet and walked over to Maria's cabinet. "Were you not scared when he hit you? Did it really occur to you he did that because you intimidated him a bit. There is an attraction, it's small, but it will grow. Maybe before the full moon."
-
"Of course I was scared. I was terrified." Maria admitted. She finished her own cabinet as well. "But before the full moon? That's only about three days..." The attraction (if it was really there, which Maria doubted) was indeed very small. "Wait, how did you know he hit me?" Her hand flew to her cheek, where he had struck her. There wasn't a mark, was there? He hadn't hit her that hard..
-
Brenda smiled lightly. "Another thing I am...I'm a halfa. Half human half witch. My dad was a wizard, my mom fell head over heels for him. I have...some magic, but I was never taught properly how to use it." She pointed at the seal on Maria's wrist then to hers. "I helped Master Wolfe with the seals." She nodded. "And yes before the full moon. I can see something, so don't doubt me."
-
Maria sighed. "Alright, I'm going to trust you on this. " She told Brenda. "If everything you told me is true than things should be better when Master Wolfe gets back." She set down her cloth. "What's next?"
