Maria gently set her down on the couch, covering her with a blanket. She kissed her forehead and wiped the tears off of her cheeks before stepping into the kitchen, starting on dinner for when Sebastian got home.
-
Sebastian came home and saw Sadie was on the couch, passed out. He walked into the kitchen and snuck up on Maria. "Boo!"
-
Maria shrieked and whirled around, still on edge from the latest incident with Clark. She sighed, seeing it was him and relaxing slightly.
-
He laughed loudly, holding his stomach as he hunched over. "G-god your face Maria!!" He kept laughing, tears crept out of his eyes as he laughed harder.
-
Maria blushed. "I-It's not funny!" She protested, checking to make sure her scream hadn't woken Sadie up.
-
He kept laughing and Sadie only stirred a bit before settling back in a different position. He wiped his tears away and leaned against a wall for support.
-
Maria chuckled and shook her head at him. "You're so weird." She said, grinning and nudging him.
-
He rolled his eyes playfully at her. "Really? If I'm weird you scare easy oh wait you do." He grinned at her.
-
Maria stuck her tongue and laughed lightly. "At least I have an excuse." She set down dinner on the table, grinning at him.
-
He hugged her gently and smiled a bit more. "Well it's nice you have a excuse." He looked up and saw Sadie and chuckled. "Did she tucker herself out?"
-
Maria nodded, suddenly looking worried. "Sebastian, today she ran out into the yard. I followed her, but she stayed away from me. She said she didn't want to be punished. She has scars, Sebastian." She gazed at the little girl asleep on the couch.
-
He frowned lightly, his hands curling up into a fist. "Punished...?" He sighed lightly and soon undid his fist. "Well I can't do anything right now...the orphanage burned down, but we got all the kids and workers out. The person in charge well..." he mumbled lightly. "He was dead in his office. Seems he caused the fire."
-
"It burned down? That's awful!" Maria gasped. "Where will the children stay? Why would he do that...?" She sunk into a chair and sighed. She hated how inhumane and cruel some people could be.
-
He sighed lightly. "They will be staying at another orphanage in the city and I'm trying to figure out what happened."
-
Maria shook her head and sighed. "I'm sorry you have to deal with all that..." She frowned, wishing there was something she could do to lift his spirits. Make him smile or something, but she wasn't sure what she could do.
