He nodded. "Why not?" He pulled out a stack and set them on the bed.

Her eyes widened a bit at the stack. "Geez...what do you do, teach those kids everything?"

He nodded, entirely serious. "For as long as they're around. The most time I've had one is... a month." He sat on the bed and invited her over.

She sat down next to him and picked up one of the books. She inspected it. "You never keep them longer than a month...?" She looked at him. "don't yu get attached?"

"I've had one or two ever since I chose this job for volunteering, which has been six years. I know that I can visit if I want, so it's easier. I know how to let go by now, though." He looked at the book. "That's a good one to start with."

She nodded lightly and opened the book, already seeing the words she would barely understand. "Really? This is a good one." She laughed lightly. "It's like reading Spanish and French all in one."

"Our characters are different than yours, but... you'll understand. You're very smart." He opened the book. "Should I read in English or Slaorian?"

She laughed again. "Right I'm smart. Um...read it any way you want, you are the teacher."

He started in Slaorian, slowly, leading with his finger.

She watched his finger and tried saying the words he said. Of course for the first few minutes, she was tongue tied, but soon she felt the words coming out slowly with a small accent to them.

He smiled, listening as she spoke. Her pronunciation was flawless.

She stopped halfway through the book and saw him smiling. "So...how was that?" She smiled back.

"Excellent. You sound like you grew up here, even though you have no idea what you're saying." The language was different but the accent remained.

She laughed lightly. "That's good, sad I don't know what I'm saying, but it's baby steps." She closed the book. "So would you like me to teach you somethings?"

He nodded. "Sure." The accent was slowly wearing away as he spoke.
