>The book.
While the knife does look very tempting, and having such a useful tool up your sleeve sounds very tempting, there is something even more useful hiding in the mess. Knowledge. Knowledge is power. And knowledge is going to power you through this.
Grabbing you book, you make your decision. Hassan waves at you as you leap over his stall back into the crowd. It's once again chaos, but you're learning, and slowly you manage to force your way out of the market carts.
Ryan is nowhere to be seen, so you sit on one of the seats nearby and idly flick through the book. Hassan wasn't lying, this book does contain everything you might want to know. Stewards, the engineer, various 'factions,' derailers, notable people, frequently asked questions. Everything.
An awkward cough pulls your attention away from the book, and back to Ryan. He smiles more in relief than anything, and pulls you back to your feet. "I told you the market cart was crazy," he says.
You chuckle, "It wasn't so bad. I got a free book out of the deal."
Ryan eyes the book quickly, before shrugging, "You ready to met my family? We'll get around to visiting all of them eventually, so which one should we start with? My family or the leader of this section of the train? She should probably know the new people are here."
>Ryan's 'family.' He seems eager to introduce the two of you.
>The leader. Maybe they know how to get home! -

Bump because this is amazing and shouldn't die.

(Thank you, Lueh. I've just been a bit held up this week.)
>Ryan's family.
"Lets go see your family! I've always wanted to see a family of gingers. Or at least, I think I have. How long does this amnesia thing last?"
"Dunno. We'll ask someone smart when we get home." Ryan replied, before taking your hand and leading you further up the train. You hadn't noticed before, on account of not really thinking about it, but you must have gone hundreds of carts uptrain from where you started, and you can hardly tell the difference. The feeling makes you a little lightheaded as Ryan pulls you forward, just fast enough to snap you out of it.
Just as you start to pick yourself up and run on your own two feet, Ryan stops you. "We're here. Quick, put this on, it's considered rude to show your bare mouth to everyone," He says, passing you a white medical mask. With a practiced motion, he throws one on his own head. You shrug, slightly amazed that he can tell which cart is which, and put on your mask as well as Ryan leads you to the next cart.
The next cart is certainly different from what you've seen though, and provides a little relief. The chairs along the edges have been converted into beds, and the cart feels more 'spacey' than the others. As the door slams shut behind you, the attention of someone resting on one of the beds is captured, and the...man(?) stands up.
He stands quite a bit taller than you and Ryan, nearly rubbing across the ceiling as he walks, and on top of that, his head is completely devoid of hair. Not even eyebrows are left, just two pairs of eyes peaking over a medical mask and skin pulled so tightly over his skull he looks like a vulture. You assume he grins happily as he pulls Ryan into the air with a giant hug. "Ryan! You've returned! Quick, we must tell the others! They will be absolutely...ecstatic."
Ryan coughs awkwardly, and the man(?) launches his attention at you, "And you brought a friends, Ryan! She won't be left out either! All she needs is a name."
>"I'm Lucy...sir? And you are?"
>"I have a name already though, It's Lucy."
>"A name for a name?"
>"...Ryan, can we talk for a second? No offense...ma'am?" -
I already have a name, though.

"...Ryan, can we talk for a second? No offence... ma'am?"
-
I already have a name.

>"I already have a name though."
Acting quickly, you decide to correct the...person. "I already have a name though, it's Lucy," you say.
"Ah, you have a friends with heart! Heart is a very nice quality to have, Ryan. You could use a little yourself. But come along now. The dragging is not over yet, dinner is about to start." They say, stretching their long legs and gallomping through the cart. They disappear into the ceiling a moment later; though the sounds of more people tell you this must be a two story cart. You weren't aware those were even a thing.
Ryan stares at you expectantly, and you raise an eyebrow, "He's certainly not a ginger, Ryan."
Ryan's nose scrunches as he laughs, and he too starts to walk down the cab. "I'll explain later. There is an answer to this, I swear. They're not so bad."
Shrugging, you follow him, "As long as you do actually explain."
Climbing upstairs, you're greeted with the rest of the 'family.' There are about six of them. They're all about eight feet tall. They're all completely bald. They're all wearing white medical masks. And all six of them are crammed around a small table in the middle of the room. Frankly, you're not sure what surprises you more. To much applause, Ryan takes a seat, and beckons you to sit next to him. You figure why not.
They pay you no attention as they dig into their food, like pigs at a trough, and you glance at the food on your own plate. It appears to be a slice of chocolate cake, but something seems...off. Did chocolate cake usually have green lines running through the bun? What about beans?
Ryan is looking at you again, and the others start to take notice that you're not eating. "Go ahead then, take a bite," they say, "It's freshly grown."
>Eat the cake. It can't be too dangerous, Ryan wouldn't hurt you. Right?
>Don't eat the cake. Your mother once said 'Lucy, never eat green cake with beans that was apparently grown. It's just good practice.'
?Book Bonus?>Didn't you see something about cake while skimming earlier? -
Didn't I see something about cake in the book?
