Ember snarled and she felt something vicious whirl up inside her, and the sane part of her slipped momentarily. She struggled for control as she tossed the other wolf away.
-
James backed up, watching and wondering who helped him.
-
Panting lightly, Ember turned her glinting eyes on him. She shifted back slowly. "He won't bother you anymore." she grunted unceremoniously.
-
"Obviously," he muttered. "Thank you."
-
Ember shrugged and walked away, this time without looking back. She didn't like the fact she had just lost control in front of him. Proved that his assumptions about her were correct.
-
"I owe you a debt," James said, watching her. "For saving my life."
-
"Don't worry about it." Ember muttered, just loud enough for him to hear.
-
"I actually will," he said. James watched her go sadly, he wanted to help her.
-
Ember turned suddenly, and fixed her eyes on him. "Why?" she snapped, "Just forget about me. Forget you met me. Forget I just saved your goddamn life. It's better that way."
-
"When I owe debts, I don't care about who you are," he said. "I want to help you."
-
Ember eyed him with bright, feral eyes. "That's not the way things work around here. Forget all your chivalry."
-
"I'm not from around here," he reasoned.
-
"You're going to die quickly, then." she said coolly. At the same time, she felt a hint of sadness--he wasn't really that bad.
-
"Doesn't mean I can't fight and kill when I need to," James replied. "We're both going to die out here, sooner or later."
-
"Correction. You'll die, I won't. I've lived out here for years, I'm not dying anytime soon." Ember snapped. She felt angry, but she wasn't sure why.
