*Oh sorry.
Kazuki headed straight for town- it was in this direction, right?- with Loralei's wrist clutched tightly in his fingers. It seemed like a lot of people were staring at his bright white outfit, and it was making him nervous.
"What are these peasants staring at?" he hissed at his charge. -
"You're dressed weird." She replied. Which was ironic, seeing as she always dressed in bright colors and patterns that hardly ever matched. Today though she'd managed to find a lot of blue.
-
Kazuki glanced down at his clothes, blinking.
"No I'm not. They are." he retorted, sticking his tongue out at the next commoner he noticed staring. By now they'd reached down, and the change in environment was obvious. Children scampered around freely while adults manned booths and small shops. It was an overall homely feeling, but it was also vulnerable, and Kazuki found himself pulling Loralei closer. -
She giggled at his response.
The farther they got the more Loralei's eyes shone. "Oh wow...What should we do first?" She asked, amazed that everything she'd read about the world outside the castle was wrong. This didn't seem dangerous, full of ruffians and ignorance. It just seemed wonderful and nice. -
Kazuki looked around quickly.
"I dunno." he breathed. "What do you want to OH MY GOSH LOOK."
With that, he veered off suddenly and headed toward a guy who had long, yellow snakes wrapped around every viable limb of his body. The man smiled in greeting to the two.
"Hello." he said with a thick accent which Kazuki had trouble identifying. "Are you looking to buy the snake?" -
Loralei paled. She could handle furry creatures, no snakes, but as she had no choice she followed Kazuki, albeit reluctantly.
-
"Will they eat my face?" Kazuki asked, oblivious to her discomfort as he poked one in the side. It's tail twitched lazily, but it sat still for the most part.
"Eheheh. Of course not. How could I sell them if they would be hostile?" the man reasoned. He sounded very convincing, as far as Kazuki was concerned. Maybe he would get one, if only for Loralei to commemorate her first time in town.
"Alright. Makes sense. How much?" he aske,d reaching his hand in his pocket.
"Let us say fifty silver pieces." the man said.
Kazuki paused.
"Fifty silver pieces? For an overgrown worm?"
"It's a snake. There is a big difference, sir."
"I'll give you fifteen at most. Maybe twenty if you're nice." -
Loralei stayed quiet, watching the snakes as if any second they might attack her. So she didn't really hear what they were saying.
-
"Absolutely not!" the man responded indignantly. These are majestic and expensive creat-"
"Ten."
"You went lower!"
"Seven?"
"Twenty, dammit!"
"Now you're talking."
Kazuki handed the dazed-looking man the twenty coins and watched him wrestle a snake off his wrist, holding it out toward him and watching as it slithered around the prince's hand and made itself comfortable on his arm. He smiled and turned to face Loralei.
"Now we have a snake." -
"Heh, wonderful.." She said, not wanting to upset him but in her mind it was farest from wonderful.
-
Kazuki held the arm occupied by the snake out to her as they started off again.
"You wanna hold him?" -
"No thanks, I'm not a big fan of snakes." She said, shrugging, uneasy with the things being so close to her.
-
Kazuki pursed his lips.
"What did I get this damn thing for then?" he muttered to himself, glaring at the snake like it was its fault. -
"Sorry-"she started, then her eyes widened. What did she see? A bookshop, of course.
She pointed to it, smiling happily, snake forgotten. "There, let's go." -
Kazuki turned his attention to the bookshop she was pointing at.
"Oh. Okay." he said, blinking. "Sounds like a plan." He started off toward the shope, vaguely wondering if they would allow his snake in.
