"Demons," he breathed. He looked back at her, shoving her up forcefully against one of the trees. "You're the dumbest human I've ever met," he told her.
-
Her frown deepened, "What?", he didn't just say that, she was sure he didn't just say it.
-
"Shut up." It was almost a growl. Just as he'd finished his words, a trio of demons came walking down the path. They had dark grey, tattered wings. Max doubted they could even fly with them.
-
"No.", she blinked and pushed him back as she tried to take a few steps back. Oh not gonna work, she's up against a tree. She focused her gaze on the approaching figures, "Demons".
-
He returned his hands to her shoulders, more forcefully this time. One of the demons noticed them. "Hey, what's going on over here?" The group stopped, focusing on Max and Alice.
-
Alice looked back at the group and blinked, not answering. To be honest, she had no idea what was going on either.
-
"He's gonna kill it, dumb---," another one said. While those two demons broke out into a short fight, the other walked over, and pulled out one of Max's wings. "You aren't one of us. But you aren't one of those heavenly angel either. You're caught between good and evil, huh? What would it take to tip the scale?"
Max looked at the demon, his grip tightening on Alice's shoulders. "A kill, probably." -
Her eyes widened, okay..he either he's pranking you or this is real. She looked at him and blinked, then of course she reacted like no other teenage girl faced with death normally reacted, yes she didn't scream. She simply stared.
-
"How convenient." The demon smirked, looking at her. "How long have you known her? Does she trust you?"
"A day or so, and yes, I know she does." This time, Max's grin was more terrifying than playful.
"Even worse. Can we watch your kill?" This got the attention of the other two demons.
Max nodded. His arms went around Alice and he flew back to the top of the tree. -
That's when the normal teenage girl in her kicked in, she scowled and squirmed in his grip, kicking and punching as hard as she could, "Let go, damn pigeon!".
Her mind was rather quiet, her thoughts were mentally writing out a death letter, not like anyone would read it. She was in between accepting the fact that she might die, and fighting it. -

"Stop, it's hard to fly like this. Stop!" He fell, trying to grab one of the branches. In the moment of shock, he felt her momentarily stop, and fluttered back up again. Max landed on the highest branch and let her sit near the trunk. "Do that again and we're both going down."
-
She scooted as far away from him as possible and scowled, "What the hell was that?".
-
"They would've killed you if I hadn't told them I would." He let her scoot away.
-
"Oh", she slowly scooted back to him, "So your not gonna kill me and leave my corpse in a ditch on the side of the road?".
