He chuckled lightly and looked at her. "Well I'm sorry about your memory loss princess." The rain made his hair cling to him and his eyes glow like a cat. Rain always made his eyes glow, he didn't understand why. "This isn't a dream world. If it was, would you feel this?" He flicked her forehead.
-
I looked at his eyes intently, they looked so pretty like this, I laughed as he flicked my forehead, "Then this is a special dream world...like Wonderland, cause I know only in a place like that I'd be sitting in a tree with a nameless guy who has glowing eyes", I grinned, "But if this is reality, then my wildest dreams could never compare to such a place"
-
"If this were a dream I'd be in a nightmare..." He looked away from her and gripped the tree limb. He sighed and shrugged, it started pouring. "We better get inside the tent Princess." He jumped down and looked up at her. "I'll catch you if you want."
-
"No you wouldn't!", I called to him as he jumped down, I jumped down too but not as gracefully as him, "No, you'd be with me in Wonderland, you'll be the smiling Cheshire Cat who tells me where to go, and scold me when I trouble the red Queen"
-
He looked at her. "I don't smile and don't use that name around me." He walked to the tent. That name brought back memories he'd be happy to live without. He opened the tent flap and got into the tent. Inside the tent it looked like a full out home like something from Harry potter.
-
I stared at his back as he walked into the tent, my hair clinging to my face, the droplets hitting the ground, thunder rumbled above. I wanted to say that I'm sorry, but I knew it wasn't enough. What would be enough? I whispered into the rain, "Sorry", but I knew he wouldn't hear me. I walked into the tent, its warmth wrapped around me, as I looked around I was certain. This is Wonderland
-
Ben sat down on the rug floor and sighed. He did hear her say sorry, because of his strange hearing, but it really wasn't enough. He shook his head and his hair dried quickly, poofing up like a dog would after a bath.
-
I won't let this pass by, I can't just ignore this. I sat on the rug next to him, smiling a little at his poofed up hair, "Then not Wonderland, tell me about where we are", I said as I hugged my knees watching him
-
He smoothed his hair out and glanced at her. "I can't remember the true name of this place. I didn't pay attention in geography class at home." He somehow meant it as a joke, but even though this was his home...he really didn't remember.
-
"It need not a name to exist", I looked down for a moment, I wanted to ask why he never smiled but the question might be too personal, would he even want to tell me? "Why do you never smile?", I asked in a soft voice, "You need not tell me if you don't want to", I twirled a lock of wet hair between my fingers, "I'm curious, its okay if you don't want me to know"
-
He sighed and thought for a few seconds. "I don't smile...for the sake of my dead mother. She always liked it when I smiled... When she died I stopped. Smiling brought her back." He looked at her. "You happy now?"
-
I didn't say anything, for a moment I stared at him. In a way, I understood his pain. I don't know my parents, I know nothing about them, if I saw them I would probably never recognise them. I didn't need words, I scooted over to him and wrapped my arms around him in a hug
-
He stiffened a bit, but relaxed a second later. He wrapped his arms slowly around her hugging her tightly. He buried his face into her hair. She smelled like violets, he just figured that out now, or maybe his hoodie was covering hersmell.
-
I patted his back, I was suprised at his response but didn't pull away, sometimes all you needed was a hug. Was my parents dead too? Did it matter? Should matter? I don't know them, I probably never will and thoughts of their deaths didn't seem to hurt. I don't know them, no emotional feelings attached
-
He broke away from the hug and had a straight face. "We better get some sleep." He brought out a sleeping bag. "Sorry there is only one..." He gave it to her.
