"Wha-? Oh, no, nothing," She protested stubbornly. "Nothing at all." She laughed lightly and batted fondly at his nose. "You sorry to much. Your fur will go gray."
-
*worry, not sorry.)
-
That's okay)
Mastiff rolled his eyes. "At least I'm not timid!" He playfully pawed Runa's ear. -
"Timid?" She asked with joking disbelief. "Well, um..." She laughed, her amethyst eyes shining. "I have no comeback for that."
-
Mastiff looked serious. "No, really. Are you alright? You have been acting...
well... different, lately." -
"I'm fine...I'm fine." She assured him.
-
His expression still offered a trace of skepticism, but Mastiff promised to stop bothering Runa anyway.
"Wanna go see the dumpster in back of the craft store?" he offered. "They've got the nicest collection of string. -
Runa nodded. "That sounds nice." On the walk, she asked, trying to sound as casual as one could discussing such an important matter. "I never really asked...what were you like as a kitten? Any siblings? Friends?" She hoped by hinting at the subject, she could eventually steer the conversation towards kittens of their own. She knew she was getting ahead of herself, they weren't even mates yet, but she couldn't help but notice the ache in her heart. It had faded at the discovery that Mastiff did i fact love her, but know it was back. She figured kittens were the solution.

That is so sweet)
Mastiff stared upward in thought. After an awkward moment of silence he spoke. "I once dwelled in the attic of a cozy townhouse with my mother and sister. I was bossy, strict, and determined." He sighed and continued.
"I remember a little sister named Suzella whom I was extremely protective of... one day she wanted to run away because she fell in love with an Outsider... I followed her and became extremely lost. Then I met a silver, feral tabby named Edgar who introduced me to the Non-Pedigrees, and ever since I have been staying with them."
Mastiff's eyes smiling, he asked, "What about you, Runa?" -
:3 Thanks. I just love shipping Rustiff! XD)
Runa's eyes darkened as harsh memories came rushing back to her. "I didn't have any siblings," she said, starting slowly. "My mother was beautiful, and I loved her so much. She was kind, smart, and funny. But..." The copper-pelted she cat hesitated. "One day I was out for a walk." Her voice was softer now, more timid. "I was attacked. By a loner. Pitch black fur, intense blue eyes. I was terrified," She looked down, now avoiding Mastiff's gaze. "I, a two week old kitten, was going to die." She shuddered, but continued. "He was mad. You could see it in his eyes that he was insane. Stalking towards me, muttering about revenge." She stopped to bow her head towards him, displaying a jagged scar that ran along the top of her head. "I managed to slip away, but not unharmed." She looked back up at him. "I never found my mother again." After a pause to clear her moist eyes, she smiled faintly. "But it gets better. Don't worry. I wandered the city on my own, until I was found by two loner mates, Solana and Lunick (I know the names are weird, but it's a reference to other charries I've made in different places. Solana=Solar=Sun, and Lunick=Lunar=Moon. They represent the sun and moon. :3) They took me in, and I could've been one of their own. (Wow, she actually could've! They both had coppery fur, Solana has red eyes, and Lunick, he has blue eyes. Blue and red make purple, like Runa's eyes! XD that's so cool/weird!) I grew up there, but when I was older I left to live my own life. I taught myself to fight, and eventually discovered the nonpeddies. They took me in, but I ha always been an outsider." She looked into his eyes and said shyly "And then I met you." -
Oh, yeah, that's awesome!!)
Mastiff was silent for a long moment. He stared at nothing but the ground.
Then he spoke.
"I rarely wish to speak of my father, but I will tell you this: He had jet black fur and energetic blue eyes, which is probably why my mother fell for him. Then she gave birth to a litter of kittens... one of which survived. Yes, me.
"But then, one day, my father... err, disappeared. No one knows why or how. But my mother barely worried (and I later adopted this careless attitude) and met up with another tom. I didn't like this one as much, but soon there was another litter of kittens and that was that."
He paused, eyes locking with Runa's. "When the three kittens were born, just like the first litter, only one survived. And that was my sister., Suzella. I swore to protect her all my life. She had coppery-red fur like my second father, and dazzling purple eyes like you, Runa."
A tiny grin appeared on his muzzle; a tear escaped from his eye. "You were a lot like Suzella." He slightly sniffled and again focused on the ground. -
The striking fear bolted Runa again as she closed her eyes, remembering those cold blue eyes, closer and closer. She yanked her eyes opened and calmed her hammering heart. Leaning into Mastiff's comforting fur, she sighed her fears away. "I'm honored to be compared to such an amazing cat." She murmured, focusing on Suzella and Mastiff, rather than his ghoul of a father.
-
Mastiff's slight uneasiness diminished with Runa by his side. He purred and gently nuzzled her. "I'm glad... well... err..."
As words failed him, he grew silent in the cool city breeze.
"Runa, I do love you..." he sighed. -
Vine lifted her head in interest, "where are you going, badger?"
Fawn continued to ponder her choises. "Sol, why can't you just come live with the non-peddies?" -
Sol scoffed. "They'd never accept a loner like me."
Duchess looked up, her face mirrorin Vine's question.
Runa smiled. "I love you too."
