I do have to say that tongue, as much as it pains me, said some what part of the truth. He said, that other religions dont go preaching on this forum. Hes right, most of these are about Chrisitianity. Why? Becuase maybe you guys dont want to tell about the things you believe. I say go for it. Tell me what you believe. Its interesting to see different points of view accroding to others. Even though i wud argue against them, and i might not even take what they say as truth. BUT THATS WHAT THE FORUM IS ALL ABOUT!! Getting different points of views, ARGUEING, finding out our differences AND researching our hearts to see if what they are saying has any truth to it. Over all this experiance is planting us stronger in our beliefs or it is making us question, 'am i right?' This is whats supposed to happen! I say bring it on!!
Lol, any way. Tongue we as Christians try very hard to save others, (to say the least, i mean we dont just try hard we try really really hard!). Thats probably another reason you feel pressured.
Take this scenario, (yes im going to argue again!) If you were blinded by a blind fold and you were leasurly walking in a straight line. Now about eighty steps ahead of you there is a massive cliff!! You are about to walk over a cliff. There are three things I could do:
1. Let you walk into the cliff, knowing thats where you would end up.
2. I could warn you once, MAYBE twice and when you say, "KIRSTEEN THERE IS NO CLIFF FOR PETES SAKE!!" I would just leave you to believe that there was no cliff.
3. OR i could constantly tell you, all the way to the cliff, that you were about to walk over the edge. I could try my best to talk you out of it! That way when or if you walked over i would know that i tried my very best. -
Sorry, ork person. I try not to argue much and im disturbing the peace here, so sorry
-
a simple dissagreement is ok. i just dont like it when people get rude or mean about it. if your going to say something, back it up with reasonable evidence, or at least give a decent explanation.
and i see what you mean kristeen. but i was once a christian, and i decided that
(to put it in terms of your scenario) i would rather try to decide if theres a cliff for myself. the constant warning that there is a cliff, would only make me want to see if your right or not. i would probably keep on walking.
:/ sorry but thats me. -
@kirsteen the fact is christianity, is based on the BLIND faith in your belief...which is actually a very powerful thing. i believe strongly that blind trust in anything speaks very loud. but the fact is without any kind of logical reasons people are going to be annoyed by your warnings, about the cliff because lets face it...in the end whether there is even a cliff is a debate between you and the one who's walking towards it. for all either of you know your crazy, and the others right.
by the way if i come off offensive it's not intentionally...i admire your loud way of putting your beliefs...
@tongue....if any one is ramming beliefs down throats it's you. ana, and kirsteen, are making there opinions in a place that it is appropriate to do so. if you don't like it then leave. there's nothing stopping you. you are embarrassing yourself. you embarrassed the entire atheist community by reacting so violently and rudely to others simple opinions.

thank you slim....

no prob...

I won't make too many comments but...
...have you ever thought that maybe the idea of God is too complex for our mere moral brains to comprehend?
Maybe there it no right or wrong answer and maybe it's just a 'being'.
Hard to explain, right? -
simplicity, is the ultimate sophistication.
-leonardo da vinci. -
tongue NewbieHere's the problem with your blindfold scenario, Kirsteen: it makes the preemptive assumption that I am the one who is blind. And people besides you and Ana do talk about what we believe, even if it is basically nothing. You can believe strongly that there is nothing to believe in. And if you're wondering why no one talks about Islam or Judaism or anything else, that's because all religions are basically the same.

True, i did put you into the story as the one who is blind. But i kinda see your point. How do i know im not the one who is blind?
Tongue there is no definite answer to this. I just prayed, "God, how do i tell them how i feel strenghtened through you? How can i explain this faith i have in you? How do i explain how i can see sin now, and i understand what it is?" The answer i got in my heart i believe was from the Holy Spirit and my heart said these two words:
"You cant" Its just that simple Tongue. I cant tell you this feeling! How do i describe a feeling? I cant.
There are some things we simply follow through this faith.. i dont know where faith comes from. Maybe from believing. Thats when i got faith.
In conclusion, 'I' cant fully believe that im not walking around in circles. But through God, i can believe. So many times in this culture, we say that "we" have faith but where does the faith come from? From God.
With out God we couldnt be Christians -
myabe the words "i cant" came from your own mind, and not a devine being?
just a thought. -
Thats a good point orkimedes. Lol, i dont hear a booming voice in my head saying, "YOU CANT!!!" Nope, its my voice telling me but who speaks through the voice is a devine being.
Many times its hard to tell my thoughts and the voice of the Holy Spirit. And it takes time to learn the voice of the spirit and practice. No this really isnt something that you can pick up at the book store but ill try to tell you to the best of my ability how i learned and am learning!Stay with me though ok,
Lets start with this. What is God? God is a devine being split into three different personalities/spirits. (i dont quite want to talk about the trinity much at this point but if you have questions i will answer it next) Any way, one of the spirits is called the Holy Spirit.
What is the Holy Spirit? Holy Spirit is the one who is inside of us. Like a conscence (or however you spell it). He is known in the Bible as the 'helper'.
So going through the line and making conclusions. God is love. God is the Holy Spirit (again about the trinity.) And since they are the same, the Holy Spirit is Love too!
What is love? "Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. It is not rude. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not keep track of other peoples wrongs. Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up. Love never fails." 1 Corintheans 13:4-8.
And since the Holy Spirit is love it is all of those things.
To be continued... -
I want to kneel and kiss tongues feet.

lol the to be continued made me laugh!

Abraham was commanded by the voice of god to kill his child. he planned to very seriously. but it was made okay because it was "the voice of god"
a woman in Texas brutally drowned her children. she claimed that they were demons, and god ordered her to kill them.
if that's the kind of love that god sends i need a new dictionary.
