NeonHedgehog NoviceAs much as I hate school but we might need it.
Music- I kinda wanna learn how to play an instrument, just so I can say, "I know how to play [intrument].".
Sports- Most people just sit on the floor/chair while playing, including me.
Spanish- Okay, this own I don't see why we need. Bough, I heard if you can speak another language, you can get a good job with a lot of money.
English- I don't know what to say about this one ...
Math- A lot of jobs have to do with math that you can't do on the calculater.
Geography- It might help a little, but I dorm think it's essential.
History- It's kinda good we know a little about history, but true, they're all dead. -
Neonhedgehog- no offense, but it kinda looks like you need english class...
Call me a nerd for this; I don't care, but I kinda like school xD
Music: I don't play an instrument or do chorus so I am in general music, but I think general music is fun. We get to watch youtube videos about music and learn to play the piano a bit :P
Sports: I for one, hate gym class, but I love playing lacrosse. Given, that's not a school team until highschool... But still :P
Spanish: some people at my school don't take spanish; they take french. But I take spanish. And I actually like speaking spanish. Although, my class is a bit boring. I like the language though.
English: I don't see why I need to take it; I already speak it goodly XD. But, I'm in honors english and it's actually really easy for me.
Math: this actualky does help you in the real world. Rarely will you find a job you don't need it at all. And in my opinion, I'm not in honors math but I should be because everything we do is easy. I actually kinda like math. Call me a nerd, I don't care, I definately won't deny it :P. But, math does help you in life.
Geography: it doesn't really do much for you in the real world, unless you plan on traveling a lot. In my opinion, you don't absolutely need to learn geography other yhan your country and maybe it's surrounding countries.
History: I personally hate social studies. I do. You will not use any of it in the real world unless you go into a career having to do with history that you need to know this stuff for. It's not like the people are going to rise from their graves to kill you just because you don't care enough to learn about them. The past is the past; don't dwell on the horrible times in humanity in the past. It don't do any good to the future.
Lol, you can call me a nerd. I don't care. I will probably agree with you. But, those are my opinions. Now, I would sign my name if it was to change the school years. Like, instead of going to school for 10 months and getting off 2, my idea is: 2 months school, 1 month off, 2 months school, 1 month off, 2 months school, 1 month off, 2 months school, 1 month off. That gives 2 extra months off, and it's evenly spaced out so you don't get bored after the middle of the 2nd month xD. Anyone up for my idea? -
Emma- is that Barney from How I Met Your Mother? I love that show :P
-
Nice Emma. xD
Vale, let me just point something out..
"Spanish- Okay, this own I don't see why we need. Bough, I heard if you can speak another language, you can get a good job with a lot of money."
You guys certainly do need Spanish. With the growing rate of Hispanics, eventually they'll start taking the jobs from you because, even though they might be a bit less qualified for the job, they're bilingual. What is better, having someone who is really good but can only communicate in one language, or having someone who is pretty good and can speak two languages?
Just a though. Spanish is a very common language. I speak it myself obviously, and I can personally tell you that in this community and many others, it's especially valued. So vale, I don't see why "I don't see why we need" is an legit answer for you. -
Now here's mine. Why I think School IS necessary. Going in contrast to the concept of the thread. xP
Music- In my class, it's not just going there, reading the notes and playing the instrument. We are shown all different types of music, and that makes us more open to several things. It shows us the meaning in things, despite not being able to understand us. We become less ignorant and more understanding and open.
PE: It's important to be in shape. That's pretty much enough explanation.
History: It may have happened a long time ago, but it's important to know the past roots. For example, you're not going to get anywhere in this country if you don't even know the first 13 colonies, the concepts of the Declaration of Independence, etc. Say all you want "Let go of the past", but History is not just based off bad wars or anything. It discusses important documents and events that made our government, living conditions, etc etc the way they are today. Knowing this is pretty much vital.
Also, Geography fits here. Just a quick thing for this. You're going to seem really uneducated if you cannot locate the states on the map, or you cannot tell where exactly the countries are in the world. You won't get much respect, mind you.
English: Are you kidding me, why do we need English? First of all, you guys live in the goddamn USA. If you don't know English and you were born here, you should seriously be ashamed. Even in Mexico, you're required to learn English. In fact, you take English classes from 1st Grade to 12th Grade in Mexico. And obviously, the official language there is not English. It's Spanish. English is a very widely spoken language and it's very beneficial to know it.
Also, people not at least attempting to speak proper English is half the reason of why I hate this generation.
Science: I want you guys to compare the intelligence the Dark Ages to that after the Scientific Revolution.
Exactly.
Geometry: Well, I take Geometry but I'm going to talk about math in general. Say all you want that math isn't used in everything, but it actually is. "How much is deducted from my yearly salary when I do this every month?" For the simplest of questions and tasks, you will need math. Hell, a lot of people I know use Trigonometry a lot in their own lives. The majority of the "good-paying" jobs require experience in math.
It's not that we 'might' need schooling, it is that we DO need school. You can say that you hate it and everything.
but when you're serving tacos at Taco Bell, don't start b----ing about "omg why do I have this sucky job?!" -
That is undoubtedly the most retarded thing I've ever read this week.
-
YES Ting.
-
I dislike school but we need it:P @Emma thats funnyXD
-
I'm going to be an engineer; I need to go to school for that.
Guess who designed that computer, or that wii, or that calculator, so it works properly. People who went to school. -
And honestly, Dora isn't going to teach you s---. xP She's nothing like the actual people from the country. Hell, her voice is f---ing Peruvian.
-
Emma- honestly I think the warning before the joke was funnier than the joke :P
Vege- I agree with everything you said. When I was talking about geography I was talking about AFTER you learn the basics like where the countries and stares are. I interpreted it as stuff like rivers and mountains and elevation and stuff like that. Where you really only need to know the details like that for your own country and possibly others as well. And with the history/ social studies, it's the same way. I interpreted it differently than you. You see, the basics like country/ state locations, oceans, the constitution, the first 10 amendments stuff like that are like, natural for me. I was taught that stuff in lower/ middle elementary school. So I interpreted this stuff as pretty much more advanced than you did. What I was talking about for history was stuff like other countries civil wars, the gold rush, stuff like that. Minor stuff that you don't have to spend a long time on, maybe one lesson if that. And as for the science, well, I personally love science so that pretty much sums up my opinions on that. Eh, my philosiphy is different than others philosiphy. And, it might sound like I'm modifying my opinions to match yours, but I'm not. I seriously agree with everything that you said, and I really did just interpret it as more advanced into the subject than you did. -
School sucks,lol.
-
Oh, and the same thing with english. Since speaking english is like second nature to me, I was thinking along the lines of like, writing essays, creative writing, reading short stories, stuff like that. Oh, and with the "I don't see why I need to take it; I already speak it goodly XD" part, I was just trying to be funny. Thought I should point that out. And actually, it was a Suite Life Of Zack & Cody reference :P. But yeah, I understand the inportance of speaking the language and speaking it properly, but once again I disected a but further into it than I needed to.

I don't think I could stand a minute of Dora.
