Yeah I really wanted Ron Paul to make it last election. He would make a great president.
As far as my favorite presidents I like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and a lot of other founding fathers. They gave up a lot fighting for freedom so they understood how valueable it was. Washington didn't even want to be president and you know what that's the kind of politician we need now. Someone who isn't driven by power but by doing what is right for our country. -
tongue NewbieActually another president I like is FDR's uncle, Theodore Roosevelt. He was the first president to really stand up to and contain big business and made huge contributions to conservation efforts. He created the first National Parks actually. Even his foreign policy was really good, even if he'd be an imperialistic neoconservative by today's standards. But in TR's time, his aggressive foreign policy was neccessary to help us stand against rising powers like Germany and Japan, nations that TR correctly predicted would pose a threat to us later.

tongue NewbieI think it can be universally agreed upon that Teddy Roosevelt was a damn good president. Liberals like the domestic policy, conservatives like the foreign policy. And more than anything he was a bold leader who didn't dance around the issues. Oh how our leaders have changed.

tongue NewbieWow, that's one more thing we actually agree on. The Patriot Act is BS and it annoys me that Obama kept it, though I do feel more comfortable in my privacy now than I did with Bush. But really the Patriot Act betrays our own values, so essentially we've let the terrorists win.

tongue NewbieAs for what the Patriot Act is, it was a law signed after 9/11 that gave the federal government the power to wiretap the phones of it's citizens without a warrant among other things.

Well, the idea of the government watching everything I say doesn't bother me too much for some reason, but I can see why it would bother some people.

I don't feel offended by being called a communist. It's not like they're evil or anything.
