In correction to the post on the top of this page, i meant 'beings' , not only humans

something needs to be done. we need regulation on what kind of firearms can be owned, how they have to be stored, and who can own them. we need regulation on how much ammo one indiviual can have. we need mandatory gun safety classes for any gun owner, and additional classes for any gun owner who has children.
i'm not for an all-out ban on guns. but SOMETHING needs to be done. we need regulation and stricter laws to keep people safe. we require people to register to fish but not to own guns? huh? -
There's no such thing as protecting someone or yourself with a gun.
...
BRO?
wh
WHAT?
That's almost the same logic schools use when a kid fights back, wtf?
Seriously, that is such a flawed statement that I can't f---ing think straight.
You actually just inflicted psychic damage on my brain, what the hell
I am performing mental gymnastics trying to understand this statement, the logic behind it, agh.
My brain hurts -
we need mandatory gun safety classes for any gun owner, and additional classes for any gun owner who has children.
That's fair -
OK i'm gonna leave for a bit because Quiz's statement about self defense actually broke me
-
There's where you're wrong, rav. The difference between offense and defense. A kid fighting back in school, versus a kid defending himself... The kid is only fighting back because another kid hit him or smth, right? Say the school imposes a rule and enforces it. 'no fighting in school', let's say. Same story with the guns! If they strictly enforced a 'no guns' rule, nobody would have to fight back! Don't you get it???
-
Rav, what your saying is FAIR, but it's still WRONG.

*you're

Nobody can argue with me when I say a gun is a violent weapon. That's just what it is. No matter what you use it for. The only case a gun can be used, is to shoot a living being. Self defense, evil intent.. no matter what, as i said, a gun will only succeed in harming something.
-
so before i take a break i'm gonna say that self defense is self defense.
Just because you were defending yourself with a weapon doesn't mean you aren't defending yourself. That's not how that works. -
Well, there are people who don't use the gun to shoot things, but to strike fear into people, but you could do that with a baseball bat, or really anything
-
I'm just gonna add that i am NOT following the current worlds news.

I think we should have access to guns. One major reason is because I am a woman, and a gun would allow me to defend myself from men who are much stronger and more powerful than me. Also places like Texas where nearly everyone has a gun experiences fewer break-ins (although if anyone has conflicting data, please share it as I would love to hear your viewpoints!)
However it's needless to say that guns should be regulated carefully, to ensure that the hands they fall into will put them to good use instead of evil. So in a way, I believe guns do need to be controlled in a sense but not restricted and entirely unavailable to the public. -
So I find your points interesting Ravager. I don't live in America, obviously. But in New Zealand, we have pretty shocking family violence and abuse statistics. This includes abuse between couples, child abuse, neglect and abuse between family members. On average, nz police attend a family violence case every four minutes. Nearly half of all homicides in nz are a result of family violence and children are present in roughly a third of cases. We have one of the worst rates of family violence in developed countries. With the majority of cases being between couples, or a case of children in families being abused and neglected.
In using your points that abuse and neglect are a direct factor in gun violence, you would expect new zealand to have one of the highest rates of gun violence in developed countries too, right?
However NZ had roughly 10 manslaughter cases in 2022 as a result of gun violence. In comparison to Colorado, the closest state in size to new Zealand- there is a shocking difference in gun violence. Colorado received roughly 850 deaths per year as a result of gun violence-- 21% of which are homicide related. That equals to around 4000 homicides each year related to guns in Colorado. In comparison to 10 in New Zealand for 2022, and 11 the year prior. New Zealand, despite our shockingly high rates of familial abuse, ranks at around 163(?) For deaths by gun violence for the year 2022.
New Zealand has a stricter access to guns than The US. We also have high rates of youth crime and youth here get off shockingly easy when committing a crime- however still do not seem to have a high rate of gun violence in these youth related crimes. Why? Because they do not have access to guns and they do not go out and purchase guns. I guess I'm just curious on if parental and familial abuse is a direct cause of gun violence- why gun violence is not a major issue in other developed countries with such high rates of abuse compared to gun violence statistics in the us- a country with far more free access to guns? -
Ranks at around 163rd on a list. Not 163 deaths*
