I think that we need to make our own oil again
-
$30 to fill my tank up halfway last night 😪
It sucks, but as you said, it was expected. I need gas so I don't have much of a choice. Just gonna keep partially filling my tank in hopes of it going down -
Lets be clear that producing our own oil is not a solution. I live somewhere that gets oil exclusively from offshore drilling operations. Prices are still rising dramatically. The keystone pipeline needs to stay canceled, the proposed plans for constructing its new path (forgive me if I get any details wrong, it has been a while since I did any reading on the matter) cuts through indigenous reservations and fresh water sources. The native community has made it very clear that they do NOT want the pipeline through their lands. Not to mention the threat oil spills pose to wildlife and water sources.
I would rather see a sharp movement towards renewable energy, but lets face it, this is America. It just isn't going to happen, at least not that quickly. Not to mention, millions of people HAVE to commute to work via car. My commute is 20 miles. I can't bike or walk, and I can't afford an electric car. Most people can't.
I don't have a brilliant answer to the crisis, and I don't envy the people leading our country who must find one. It sure is scary, though. I read somewhere that prices could go over 7 bucks.
I do not think this will end anytime soon. -
Yeah, your are probably right honestly. I heard that gas is 40 dollars a gallon in some parts of Florida right now.
And wait, YOU DONT HAVE LEGS!,!?.???? -
We're almost at $4
I read somewhere that gas prices are more of a global thing, and that any disruption in the gas/oil supply or even nervousness about there being a disruption will make gas prices go up.
I think it was a CBS news article, but the weird thing was it just kept on repeating that multiple times, that's all the article was. So I don't know how reliable that was.
They meant that they can't walk 20 mi to go to work. -
Interesting….
Also, I was kinda joking, but cool I guess
Also, I feel like this is getting a bit off-topic. Sorry -
Rip to my side hustle. Good luck getting anyone to take driving jobs where you pay for your own gas in this late phase capitalistic society.
-
There needs to be a new type of society out there that is better than capitalism, but capitalism is the best we got now and it is still horrible
-
The free market in and of itself isn't inherently bad, infact it promotes a lot of good qualities for a society to have, the problem with it is that people are selfish and if you give them an inch they'll take a mile. As societies become more developed under capitalistic regimes, wealth redistribution becomes a major issue. I would hate to have complete redistribution of wealth, but I think our current system rewards greedy behaviour too much.
-
I think that communism would be perfect if people were perfect and exactly the same and all worked anyway. But because we aren’t, capitalism is the best we got.
-
I guess the raise in oil prices might cause people to carpool more?
-
Probably lol
We might need to buy tons of oil to store before it gets worse -
Maybe people will ride bikes more
-
Kinda hard when most American cities are build horizontally and now vertically. It's a 20 minute car ride for me to get to work. Biking isn't the perfect solution people think it is. More electric cars would be poggers though.
