Thread Topic: should all children be vaccinated before attending public
-
This is a serious debate.
I think they shouldn't have to be.
I think that children who have there standard shots should be aloud to attend without receiving new, slightly experimental vaccines.
What if there is something wrong with the vaccine given to the child!? What happens if in twenty years all the children given the latest flu vaccine develop a physical illness?
And as far as religious reasons, it is there religion and I am not going to force the to go against them so we can give there children some new vaccine.
A lot of vaccines have resulted in unstuperious illness, both physical, and mental. I don't think it is right to have every child prone to the possibility of developing some sort of complex or physical damage.
People say that it saves money, 1,400,000? I believe that is the number of money saved now from hospital expenses from children vaccinated who escaped epidemic. It would work just the same if parents took more attention to there children's physical condition, and illegal immigrants were tested for illness before they settle down. That way foreign or supressesd viruses art as prone to spreading.
I can rant about this for quite awhile but not right now. -
I really recommend you look up group immunity or the recent outbreaks of diseases we had cured in California recently. Anti-vaxxers make me ill.
-
Schools are a hotspot for disease spreading. Families infect child, child goes to school, illness spreads to kids in school, almost all families with kids in that school infected.
Also, you're thinking about pandemics wrong. Think of everyone in the world as a node. A point. All the nodes are connected to other people they interact with, each node connection has a strength depending on how much the people interact.
Now when you vaccinate someone their node dissappears, they can no longer receive or spread the illness.
By requiring vaccination of children in schools you remove a large number of nodes and all the other nodes are substantially less likely to get the illness.
So the benefit is substantially slowing down or completely halting a possible pandemic.
Are there any physical downsides? No. Vaccines can be produced quite cheaply. Many of the diseases being combatted have had extensive research and they are simply adjusting for different strains. Measles vaccine? No problem. Flu vaccine? No problem. Only downside is being drowsy and a sore arm. There was a point when my dad had 6 hardcore shots (anthrax etc) in a day and even though he wasn't going to be running a marathon that day he was ok.
What are the downsides to not giving kids vaccines?
Pandemics spread easier and kids get s---ty illnesses because of their parents. Polio FTW.
What are the upsides?
Happy fringe groups.
Unless a kid can provide medical records (from a doctor) that show that the cannot have a certain vaccine then they should either get the shot or get out. -
No downsides, really? Vaccines are still pretty new, a lot of people believe they cause things like ADHD and I think there might be truth in that.
-
I don't believe the government should force people to get vaccines, but society also has the right to say you can't go to school and threaten the health of the rest of the children. Basically, if you're so convinced that vaccines are evil, then you'll have to homeschool your kid.

I don't think I got vaccines at school age
-
Well honestly, in a nutshell what I think is this; vaccines are prone to lead to stronger illness, and really I agree with anastasia on the rest. I don't think it should be forced, but stronger disease control should take pace in public places.
Maybe you should have to be vaccinated before going to DisneyLand. -
Excuse me, can you please provide evidence for vaccines leading to stronger illnesses?
-
Vaccines have been around since at least when my parents were school age (they 50) because they got measles shots in school. So if there were any disastrous effects later in life they would be known by now.
And a lot of stuff like adhd is genetic (I'm currently taking a bioinformatic programming course where it teaches about finding the sequences in the human genome that are linked to the genetic diseases so my opinion on this is much better than yours but don't let that stop the debate). -
Well obviously there aren't disastrous effects or you're right, it would be really obvious. But think about it, its a lot of chemicals being put into you when you're very small, it doesn't sound ridiculous to me that more sensitive children could be effected by that.
Stuff like ADHD seems to be a lot more common now, I don't believe it's all genetic tbh. -
ADHD is a complex mental disorder which is hard to spot in most cases unless you are a skilled professional. It wasn't even recorded as existing before that long ago. Doctors are getting better at spotting it.
-
lions is right. Chemicals are scary and hard to understand so they must lead to other things that are scary and we don't understand, like ADHD.
I mean, listen to some of these chemicals. Stuff like:
Retinol
Nicotinic Acid
Ascorbic Acid
Cholecalciferol
Tocopherol
Phylloquinone
wait... no those are vitamins A,B,C,D,E, and K.
Everything is chemicals Lions. EVERYTHING. And the few that are "lethal" are only lethal in massive doses. Hell, Vitamin A will kill you dead bang. Vaccines require next to nothing to be injected into the person. You get more lethal chemicals for swallowing an apple seed. -
A person can most certainly have adverse reaction to vaccine, ranging from mild to lethal. Granted, its not all that often, but it sure happens.
Medicine in general kills a lot of people so its correct to be concerned.
I dont care if people get vaccinated or not. But if all th other kids at school are already vaccinated its not like its gonna really effect them.
On the other hand, the parents choice is exposing the childs body to illnes. On the other hand maybe the parent would rather risk and illness than a bizzare reaction to the vaccine.
Dunno. I like vaccines. They make my life easier but thats just me. -
Everything is chemicals..I suppose, but you know what I mean. There's a difference between vitamin A etc and man-made chemicals.
I didn't have one when I was 7 and I was the only one in the class who didn't, because I wasn't allowed. My best friend said I would die because I didn't have it xD -
Slim you're right. Some people legitimately cannot have vaccines. And this goes back to my first post in this thread. Group immunity. By willingly making yourself available for sicknesses when you don't have to, you are increasing the chances of getting the people who legitimately can't help it getting sick.
