I'm doing an assignment on it :) It's really interesting and I was wondering if any of you beautiful people might have an opinion on it :)Maybe you're only tought that it was to end WW2, maybe not. What are your opinions and do you know any good websites etc, or historians that investigate this question?
Thanks! -
To make japan piss off.

Would you care to elaborate?

because japan wouldnt surrender, and America gave plenty of warnings.

America was having a contest with Japan. Eisenstein told them that the only way to end the war would be to come up with an incredible weapon that would strike fear into their hearts. Japan was attempting to do what America was doing, but we had f---ing Eisenstein. We beat them to making the first atom bombs.
Anyways, America warned them, "IF YOU DON'T STOP TRYING TO KILL US YOU'RE GOING TO GET IT." And Japan didn't want to die, so they tried to kill us off before we were able to drop the bombs. Sadly, America thought it would be cool to kill of tons of people. We wanted to end the war, but.. They dropped the bomb. Boom. Thousands died, thousands were infected.
To answer your question, America dropped the bomb because they wanted to be the big boss and because they wanted to end the war before anyone else got hurt. (Whether it was their own or Japan's people, I'm not sure.) -
This isn't really a textbook friendly answer, but a big part of it was that we wanted to intimidate Russia. Even before the war ended a rivalry was brewing between us and them, even though we had allies in stopping Hitler. Also Russia would have invaded Japan if the war had ended even a month later, and the United States didn't want Russia to have any control over Japan after the war.

Factoids about dropping the bomb. They had there sights planned on different locations but do to bad weather they dropped them somewhere else. Another fact is that the scientist that worked on the bombs didn't know about it until it was dropped.
The answers they gave are basically why they did it. The war in Europe was over and we were quickly gaining territory on the Japanese which was a good thing for us. Other countries in that scenario would've surrendered but the Japanese were ruthless and we needed a way to end it soon, resulting in the bomb. Many people are still conflicted about it even today about why we dropped the bomb, which was a very risky move by Truman
