The story about Jon Hammar, the marine veteran imprisoned for no reason, is still in custody. Can someone explain why our president isn't calling, talking, sitting down with someone of power in Mexico to get him out? This is bulls---. It really is. Pff, this is a veteran that has PTSD, trying to go a vacation and get some peace after the s--- he's seen, was taking precautions to do things legally, and this s--- happens. I can guarantee you this is mentally traumatizing, and pisses me off.
As a person who knows the effects and pain veterans go through, that has her own dad dealing with it everyday, that knows how much they've sacrificed, this kind of event still even occurring is unbelievable to me. -
This is pretty similar to what happened in Mexico a few years ago, where they were trying to keep this French woman in jail and the powers in France were trying to get her out. The only difference is that France was actually trying to make an effort in getting the person out. It happens all the time over there. An entire families get imprisoned or kidnapped over there, even if they had only gone for vacation or whatever. It's just just how it is nowadays. It doesn't matter who you are, either or the mafia or the army from Mexico will hold you in custody for absolutely no reason.
But I'm agreeing with that you're saying, that it's a horrible thing. Even worse for Hammar, because he's not only a veteran, but he has PTSD. The president should have done something about this a long time ago, right when it happened. What has he done to help? Nothing. Hammar's mom is suffering, and she can do nothing nor can she get help from anyone. There needs to be better protection for those traveling out of country to prevent such an event from happening.. But I'm doubting it that the President or anyone else is going to do s--- about it. I'm just hoping for the best on this issue. -
I'd like to give Obama the benefit of the doubt on this one and say this would've been handled if there wasn't uncertainty over leadership in the State Department. I say that because Clinton is on her way out and there isn't a replacement yet. John Kerry will be confirmed soon, maybe it gets done then. But ultimately it is probably a case of the State Department dropping the ball. All I can really say about this is that unless you know the inner workings of the State Department, you really can't fairly criticize their actions on this matter.
I will say this however: given that OUR goverment also imprisons people on trumped-up charges indefinitely, it would make a lot more sense for our government to look the other way. Our government has no right at this point to criticize other countries for their human rights violations. -
Right, thanks gais. x3
