I sprung back up and into military posture. It was courtesy,accompanied by a quick salute.

The nurses set the cot back in its previous place and left the room to attend to other patients. I peeled open my eyes, despite the tiredness nagging at me. "Hi there," I whispered, still a bit out of it.

I returned to a slouchish state and smiled down at him.
"Hey there." -
"I feel so weird.... Do I look bad?" I gave a small grin. The medication would wear off soon and the nurses had warned me that the pain afterwards would be excruciating.

"No. Just the same as always," I grinned back.

"Okay... I don't want to look like a murder scene..." I let out a few giggles. "Oh, yeah... I forgot to tell you. I lived." The small smile grew into a wide grin. The medication was definitely still working.

"I can tell."

"It was weird watching them go through the procedure..."

"I imagine."

I blinked a few times, the groggy feeling lifting a bit. I looked up at him, my eyes loaded with emotion and feeling.

The only thing I wanted was for him not to be in pain, for once. I looked back at him, towering over his cot.

I took in a long, deep breath. "Come here," I whispered, shifting to the side a bit so he'd have a place to sit beside me.

I slowly sat beside him, trying not to put him in discomfort. "Yes?"

I reached over and took his hand in mine. "I love you."

"I love you too." My heart melted right there.
