Eventually, he gave up once he got to his math homework. His head ached so he went to shower instead, to calm the ache.
-
"Dinner." His mom called out in a stressed voice. He went downstairs to eat with his
dysfunctionalfamily. -
(Awh.) When he came out of the shower, no one had come, still. When it wasn't the family disagreeing on something, it was them never seeing each other.
-
He got lost in thought as the others talked.
"How was school today, Alex?" His mother asked.
"Fine." He kept it short and sweet.
"Still getting picked on, huh twirp?" His sister smirked and pointed to the bruise on his head.
"You need to learn to fight, boy." His dad pointed out.
"I do." -

"I do fight." -
He ate dinner by himself. He found some scraps of food and heated them up. Pretty decent meal, to him.
-
They rattled on about other things, leaving Alex's mind to drift again. I wonder how Nick is.
-
When he finished eating, he put the dish into the sinks. He wished for some company other than himself.
-
He finished eating and took care of the dishes. Dad went into the living room watching football, his sister on the phone with someone and his mom putting away leftovers. After cleaning he went back upstairs to his room.
-
He began on his homework again. He couldn't concentrate so well for some reason. Everything seemed to be written in a different, foreign language. He tapped his pencil against his paper impatiently.
-
He worked on his math, problems taking up a good deal of the page. "Damn." Once he finished he crawled back into bed, laying there quietly.
-
He'd have to pull an all-nighter to finish his homework, he knew. He looked at the clock. It was getting late, yet no one was home still. He sighed and put his books away.
-
Alex tapped his fingers on the sheets a bit. He figured if he woke up early he could finish his writing, but he wasn't feeling up to it at the moment. He sighed, closing his eyes. He couldn't stop the day from replaying through his head.
-
Nick decided to stay up a while longer. Surely they'd come home. But as minutes passed, he was sure they were working overtime.
-
He curled up and fell asleep.
