Her mother pulled her down the hall a bit. "I come home to find you kissing a girl? Mai. What's happened to you?" Mai opened her mouth but she couldn't speak. What her mother had just said was like a dagger to the heart. She knew it was too good to be true. Her parents being okay with her choices? Tears threatened to come, and Mai swallowed. Her mother stood impatiently, waiting for an answer.
-
Kawa felt so bad for Mai. Why couldn't we have practiced at my house? she wondered, but she already knew the answer. It was because she was to scared of what Mai would think of her home.
-
Her mother tapped her foot. "I'm waiting, Mai," the tone in her voice showed just how angry she was. "I can't believe you, Mom. You knew. And you lied. You said you were okay with my decisions. Obviously you're not..." she said quietly. Then the first of the tears came. Her mother wasn't taking any of it. "You're not to have her over here again, Mai. I won't allow it." Mai couldn't listen anymore. She was crying so much that it interfered with her vision and thinking. Her mother walked down the stairs, leaving Mai sitting in the hallway, crying.
-
Kawa stayed in Mai's room until she heard her mother's footsteps leave the hallway. She opened the door, to find her crying. "M-Mai?" she asked.
-
Mai looked up at Kawa and wiped the tears from her face. "I'm sorry..." the tears came again.
-
Kawa hesitated, then wrapped her arms around Mai. You know what they say, a hug is the best medi-no wait, that's laughter.
-
Mai hugged Kawa back. "I knew it all along... They're ashamed and embarrassed because of me..."
-
"You need motherly comfort." Kawa said, then thought a moment. "And ice cream."
-
Mai looked up at Kawa and nodded. "Ice cream would be nice..."
(now you got me craving ice cream XD) -
:P I has ice cream, I just gotta persuade my mom to let me have some
"Come on, I have an idea." Kawa said, leading Mai out of the house and down the road. She took a deep breath, and took a turn onto a dirt road with oldish looking one story houses. -
Mai followed Kawa down the dirt road. "I like this place. It's simplistic yet charming in a way," she said.
-
"Glad you like it." Kawa said, stopping at a yellow house. The paint was chipping away and there were weeds everywhere in the garden, if it could be called that. Any of the student at school would've mocked the house, which is the very reason Kawa was ashamed to call this home.
-
Mai took in the scene of the house they were walking up to, savoring the homey feel to it. Her house was too elegant to call home. It was more like a 5 star inn.
-
"Well, home sweet home." Kawa said, walking up to the front door and unlocking it with the key that she kept around her neck. "Inside you'll find icecream and motherly comfort."
