Mai bowed her head. "Sorry about my family.. They're not really the supportive type."

"You've nothing to be sorry about. They're the ones who should be sorry." Kawa said, voice bitter.

Mai shrugged. "They don't know any better. About me, I mean. They both grew up in wealthy communities where there was no such thing as even considering changing your sexuality. They're very strict Catholics. Which makes me... their sin."

"That's what I hate about people. Using the excuse 'I didn't know any better.' It's like saying 'I had no choice.' You always have a choice, just like you know what you should do. Even if you don't do it."

Mai sighed. "I just hate to think that my own parents made the choice to not accept me..."

"You only have to live through it best as you can untill you can move out." Kawa said, giving her a hug.

Mai hugged her back. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

"Hey, you wanna stay over here tonight?" Kawa asked, after some hesitation.

Mai smiled. "Sure, if that's okay with your mom..."

"I'm sure she'd be thrilled." Racheal said, reentering the room.

Mai smiled. "So... should I call my parents or..."

"Go ahead, there's a phone in the kitchen." Racheal said, as Kawa took the two empty ice cream tubs to the trash.

Mai dialed her home phone. Her father answered. "Hey, Dad. I'm staying over at my friend's house tonight," she said. He didn't protest, so she said thank you and hung up.

"So, what do you two want to eat tonight?" Racheal asked.

Mai shrugged and smiled. "I'm up for anything."
