That's true, however, pronouns also exist to identify gender. That wasn't their original purpose, but because we have gendered pronouns, it's another function they have.
-
Neos, I believe, are pronouns that make people feel comfortable. Some people might not like regular pronouns, or might feel uncomfortable with them.

so using pronouns that match your gender is a given. Non-binary isn't some third gender, it's exactly as the same, not one of the binary genders. Forcing them to only use they/them pronouns kind of forces them into a binary
That's how I understand it at least, I'm not nonbinary so I could be wrong -
Bread: Shouldn't they/them, which is neutral in terms of gender, serve the need for a non-gendered pronoun?
Soulfires:
Yes and I wouldn't want anyone to be uncomfortable around me but I disagree about their purpose.
The only pronouns I won't use are bulls--- like kittyself. I'm sorry but I do draw a line there. -
Ah, late post.

Pronouns are a construct of language. Many languages do not posses them, others have pronouns for every word. Gendered language varies incredibly from language to language so in a way I'd say it's narrow minded to say that they're dumb. They're just words and don't mean much. I will say some people are very needlessly disrespectful about people's pronouns, and some LGBT people are very rude to people about their pronouns. It makes it hard for people to respect each other LGBT or not when people are rude to each other.
I personally think some aspects of pronoun culture can come off as obnoxious, but really it's nothing to get worked up over. If you're stressed about American pronouns don't go to France where you can seriously offend some people for using the wrong pronouns for a coffee pot. -
Your explanation about being forced into a binary does make a bit of sense.
-
I took two years of french, I know about their gender nonsense.
I wouldn't say neopronouns are dumb. -
Personally, I use "xe/xem" specifically because of the spelling. The letter X is often used to label something absent or unknown. And being agender, I feel that my gender is both absent and unknown, while "they/them" (in my personal perception) seems more fitting for having a gender unknown.

*has considered switching over to using Cats and Cats only as a pronoun*
Aight I’m just gonna say-
A pronoun can be how you feel mentally as well and like you can’t call that stupid or anything cause it’s just what said person thinks feels right for them. Let people be whoever they want to be. Nothings wrong or inaccurate here, especially given gender and pronouns -
i do think referring to yourself as an animal is... yeah, a bit odd.
-
Otherwise I do not think neopronouns are stupid or dumb, I just am (less, now) confused about them. But I do draw a line at people identifying as animals.
-
I think that if you call someone a she and then they pull you aside and ask you to refer to them as a he or whatever and you disrespect that then you're just being a needless a--hole, but people who are like "let's all sit in a circle and tell each other our pronouns" just come off as a bit needlessly pretentious to me. It's not harmful behaviour but girls who're like "hi my name is Lexi. She/her" everytime they introduce themselves are just unnecessary. It comes across as attention seeking. Unless your pronouns are easily confused you probably shouldn't constantly state them because it perpetuates a culture of disrespect that makes it harder for people who genuinely get misgendered a lot.
-
It’s a mental thing, not a physical thing, alright?
-
Could be worse.
...probably
