Ainacec's mother neared the sound. There, she saw a trapped tomcat, a wolf, and another creature.

Shasta stopped dead in her tracks. 'Don't move.' it repeated. 'I mean it.'

Ainacec's mother tried to make out what the other creature was, but it was hard.

The unfamiliar creature was right behind her. 'I want you to leave the tomcat to die.' he told her. Being a compassionate wolf, she refused.

Ainacec's mother, not wanting to see a fight, ran off.
